That's what I was thinking. His house looks like new construction, the eave should be strong. As long as he can clear his utilities, it would be a clean installation.

He was talking about a brace...

I also went to his provided link to Amazon. That is an interesting spec- 1 through 12 and 14 through 69. That kind of ignorance and neglect on the part of the manufacturer goes right along with 150...

The problem is split between two threads.

Thanks for clarifying that Rabbit. I was wondering where his TV full report might have been. I was thinking it was more of an installation problem, and it is, but there's more to it than I thought.

Yeah, I re-read it and he hasn't bought any antenna yet. Good for him. :)

Maybe he can give up on the idea of an eave mount, unless he goes with something small.

A 91 XG on a 5-10 foot mast...

Really? I know you have to be joking, I know you got a great sense of humor.

Seriously though, He wants to use an eave mount. The 3020 is pretty large antenna if he just wants FM as an extra to...

yes that would fall under the category of overkill. Having VHF low elements on your antenna will not help you pick up VHF Hi or UHF. That is what the one good benefit of the channel reassignment....

No Big Antennas

The 2020 doesn't have a lot of cross section for wind load, so for 15 feet up without guy wires, you would probably be OK. The 3020 is a monster at 12 feet long. I would not put that up 15 feet on an...

Exclamation Chain link top rail.

I currently use a 21' 1 3/8" SS-20 top rail. It is approx. .90" wall thickness. I don't know what that translates to in gauge.

However, in a 40 MPH wind it twisted enough to bother me. So, I...

Db4e

Time is not an issue, but value is and the DB4E looks to be the better value. Hell, Amazon can have that antenna here tomorrow if need be.

I was going to suggest a slightly taller mast anyhow, to...

AD Tech,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had never previously considered a C2V. I always thought it was one of those antennas that was more of a supplement to a Sat dish. That's how I usually see...

Thanks for the tip on Titan TV, I want to look into that for my purposes.

1) VHF Hi & UHF only.
2) Milwaukee & Chicago only.
3) VHF Low not needed.
4) PBS important. Milwaukee, Chicago,...

Intial repairs and observations

I'll start with a new balun and possibly new RG-6 but that would be a project due to fact it was installed when the house was new.

On a single antenna system, does polarity matter on the balun?...

Existing RG-6

Yes, I will see to it that we use a substitute RG-6 downlead before we try and replace it since it goes through the chimney enclosure and through the house. To be honest, if the RG-6 is bad we'll...

Excellent questions.

I may have mentioned in the original post that the rotator doesn't work. The indoor part seem to work, the dial moves when turned, and the motor in the control unit moves and...

No Sir!

No trouble at all.

No more trouble than I already conceived. The truth is, I have already suggested that we start by replacing all the connections and the cable/satellite combiner. I...

Thumbs up Could he be picking up those 2 channels without an antenna?

Hi Wizwor,

Thanks for your input .

You may be right about the RG-6, but I had disregarded that because he is at least getting some channels, but definitely important to see if that is the...

Isolators the problem?

Hi Rabbit,

Interesting. I can tell you right now that those isolators are not as the diagram you posted shows in fact, they are at least 90 degrees off.

In your experience could that be most...

What are these?

Also, I noticed that these little "wings" were not symmetrical, I believe the wind has moved them. They will adjust, Rivets are not too tight.

What are they? FM antennas?

At any rate should the...
