OTA at the beach house (New Jersey)

Gearing up for the summer and I don't want to pay Comcast anymore money for a house I use less than 25% of the year.

My goal is to get all the networks, I don't care about where they are from. Most people in the area seem to watch channels from New York so I guess I should aim for them first?

(Keep in mind this is right at the Jersey Shore on a barrier island with lots and lots of wind - 90MPH+ during Sandy!)

What would you suggest? I am asking for all of your opinions before I start spending money. House has new-er RG6 cable to all relevant rooms.

My first question to you would be is ME TV, a network that reruns old tv shows from the 1950s-70s important to you? Ditto on WACP real channel (RF) 4, which according to wikipedia just runs informericals and various childrens programming.

I ask this because RF 2 and RF 4 will require a different antenna than if you decide these signals aren't important.

Philadephia's signals are weak, but if you can get at 50' with your antenna, we should be able to put together a system that'll get you the major networks.

I would consider MeTV a "happy bonus" (as would PBS).

Yes, 50 ft. is something I can do but I need to watch the wind load, 50 ft. would put the ocean directly line of sight. I wouldn't want my tower, or the antenna, to be blown down.

An option at your location I'd try would be a single antenna system. The Antennacraft HD1800 is not only a strong heavy duty antenna, it is also idea for someone in your situation with weak signals who desires RF channels 2 - 51 across all three TV broadcast bands (low-vhf, high-vhf and uhf).

I would orientate antenna to Philadelphia at magnetic compass heading 308. Expect to see Philadelphia signals down to WHYY PBS on RF 12.

Further, I'd purchase a preamp. A RCA TVPRAMP1R is great performer for the price. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...u=044476071669

Make sure when installing, on preamp, run coax from antenna (3 to 6' jumper) into "combined" antenna preamp input. Also under a little rubber boot of the inputs is a switch. It's choices are "separate" or "combined" - make sure you are in combined.

Run coax down your tower.

How long is your coax run going to be? With the preamp you should be able to get away with a good distance. Also, do you intend to do a lot of splitting of the signal to various sources in your home?

WPVI transmitting on Real channel 6 , ABC , is a good channel to receive.

And it looks to me that the greatest number of Tv stations and channels is/are to the , West North West.

That being the case , a All channel antenna such as the , www.antennacraft.net , HD1800 antenna is to be recommended and the antenna will be aimed at about 308 degree magnetic compass direction.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

And looks to me like , 20 , 30 , feet or so antenna height will be Ok for reception.
