------------

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for channels.

You can also compare the cost of the CM-7778 and EU385CF-1 versus an RCA TVPRAMP1R (which combines both functions).

Thanks Teleview for all that info. How far away do the nearest trees have to be. I know at one time directv couldn't get a clear enough line of site for their signal.

The trees are going to make reception less reliable unless you can mount above them. Of course, safety and cost have to be considered.

Still, before drilling holes or spending money on a tower, try testing reception with the antenna held in position by temporary means. If there's a modest breeze, you'll be able to judge the effect of moving foliage.

I'd still try the DB4e... It's by far the least expensive option you've got.

Telescoping, masts are not terribly expensive either... http://www.3starinc.com/50_foot_tele..._ez_tm-50.html

Do not give up before you start.

As to trees , if the tree is in your yard and the antenna is aimed direct into the tree , that is not good , if the tree is , say , across the street , that is better , if the tree is at the end of the block , that is better , if the tree is a mile away , that is better , if the tree is miles away , that is better.

The idea is to locate the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the direction of reception.

I recommend Test reception with the DB4e antenna above the roof , if the house has a chimney , you can , tie and or duct tape a , 10 foot , Top Rail chain link fence pipe , to the chimney with the DB4e antenna at the top of the pipe.

You can use your choice of preamplifiers , and just run the coax through a open door or window , direct to 1 Tv as a Test of reception.

Or can hold the Top Rail fence pipe and have some one check reception.

If no chimney , then straddle the legs of a wooden chair over the peak of the roof and prop the DB4e antenna up on the seat of the chair.

Or you can devise your own creative way to get the DB4e antenna up in the air.

It is an Adventure to Discover what happens.

I suspect you will at least receive , WVTA , WWNE , WYCU , and then you will have more , experience , evaluation , idea , about receiving the other Tv stations.

Some more ways to get the antennas up high.

10 foot tripod antenna mount , (RON4712-50-10)

Use a tall straight tree to get the antenna/s up high.

trees are located in my yard anywhere from 25 to 45' from antenna location.I picked up an rca flat indoor antenna and ran an extension cable up on to roof. wnne came in nicely a couple of public radio channels and that was it. they still have "private' satellite?
