Peer check, results inside.

My results for OTA signals can be found here:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...99005baa1ee7a2

I would like to be able to pick up the stations in the Northwest and Southeast quadrants from my results. With that said, those include both UHF and VHF signals, but have read that UHF antennas are generally better. I realize an outdoor antenna would be best in my situation and thats fine. However, would it be possible to use two directional antennas, one pointing to each quadrant and combine them via some combiner?

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated!

Tv Reception.

The default antenna height is Very Low to the ground.

Looks like might be possible to receive both directions with one antenna.

And Yes it can be done With Out a antenna rotator.

Require a second tvfool radar plot report.

For improved signal strength.

Please make a second tvfool radar plot report with the antenna height at 25 feet.

Mounting at 25' gives you better signal strength, enough that I would strongly recommend it over the lower level. You'll also want to avoind aiming into trees and buildings.

When you have a mix of UHF and VHF signals, an antenna designed to both bands is best. In your case, a UHF only antenna will not provide reliable reception of the available signals.

Combining a UHF only antenna with a VHF-only antenna is inexpensive and easy to do. You simply need a UVSJ. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103923, http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...nna-%28UVSJ%29. This method can be used to your advantage in the case of the signals to the NW. An Antennas Direct 91XG , roof mounted in the clear, pointed toward the NW (about 334° compass) gives you access to eight or so UHF signals most of which will carry more than one virtual channel. Then, point an Antennacraft Y10713 at WSIU (about 51°). connect each antenna to the UVSJ and the output of the combiner to an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamplifier. The output of the preamp is then cabled to the TV or splitter if more than one is to be connected.

The signals to the SE would need to be treated separately. A Winegard HD7698P equipped with a CPA-19 would be my choice. Pointed toward 132°, you would expect reception of five more stations. I would consider adding a rotator to this antenna if I had an interest in DX. This antenna would cable separately from the first system. I would use a separate external tuner at the TVs that I ran this secondary feed to. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=2882

Some of the Tv transmissions are still to weak for a one antenna setup at 25 feet.

So that being the situation , to receive the -Most- receivable channels (both directions) with the antennas at about 25 feet above ground.

Install a Winegard HD7698P antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp aimed at about 120 degree magnetic compass direction for reception of the south east group of Tv stations/channels.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.
__________

And install a Winegard HD9095P antenna with a CPA-19 preamp aimed at about 330 degree magnetic compass direction for reception of the north west group of Tv stations/channels.
_______

These are 2 Separate antenna systems and will not be connected on to one coax.

The 2 separate antenna systems coaxes will go the the location of the Tv and be connected to a remote control A/B antenna switch. http://www.radioshack.com , #15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com , #32-4425 .

How many Tv's are/will be connected??

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels" or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

The UVSJ mentioned earlier is a set of tuned filters. One port passes UHF frequencies, the other passes VHF frequencies. The difference in frequencies between the UHF and VHF bands is substantial so the filters do not need to be especially sharp or of unusually high quality to keep the signals from each antenna separate.

If you attempt to combine signals from two antennas in the same band, there is far less difference between frequencies. To keep one antenna from interfering with the other, you would need higher quality filters which will cost more due to the materials and specialized equipment and skill required to adjust them during final assembly.

www.tinlee.com is one of the few remaining sources of tuned channel insertion filters. My understanding is that they are willing to work with you to determine your specific requirements... this is a custom build solution so expect the cost to be higher than over the counter consumer grade equipment.

I would have a difficult time justifying the expense of combing two UHF antennas. There are many less expensive options to consider. The two suggestions provided thus far are very similar, and both give you a less expensive, and likely, higher performing system than one with tuned combiners.

Tv Reception.

Very good.

I recommend go for the North West group of Tv stations/channels first.

Reason:

The north west group will provide all the Networks except RTV Retro Tv Network.

Install the HD9095P with the CPA-19 preamp and also install a Antennas Direct C5 , VHF antenna to receive WSIU-DT channel 8 PBS at 51 degree magnetic compass direction.

The C5 comes with a combiner to combine the HD9095P and C5 onto 1 coax.

The CPA-19 preamp is connected to the output of the Combiner and the 1 coax goes to your Tv location.

For the best reception the antennas will need to be Up High and the least amount of trees and tree leaves and other obstructions in the directions of reception the better.

___________________________________________

Then at a later date you can install the second system for the south east group of Tv stations/channels.
