Canadian Newb - Help?

Bear with me, I'm super new to all things over-the-air, antenna related.

I have an LG LCD TV, model 32LC7DC. I have tried many many times unsuccessfully to get channels. I've used the EZScan feature. I've had the TV set to TV, DTV, CATV & CADTV. Which one of these SHOULD it be set to? I'm assuming simply using EZScan without an antenna hooked up isn't going to do jack?

We have merely TWO cable companies here. One is very expensive, the other only offers sattelite in our location & overcharged us by $20 every single month, no matter how many times I called. So we cancelled, got Netflix, but would love to watch basic channels [esp. for seasonal shows like Big Brother & Hell's Kitchen]. The more channels we can get the better BUT I'm okay with simply having access to GTV [Global] which airs a lot of the content we like & also CTV would be nice. I'm esp. okay with only being to access 2-3 channels we want vs. a lot if it's a lot less time consuming & easier to try to gain access to those 2. I see GTV & CTV are in green on my report, so shouldn't they be easy peasy to access? Do I just need a set-top type antenna? Any recommendations?

I always thought you just plugged the coaxial cable from the wall into your TV & you'd automatically get 2-3 local channels in good quality. Guess not.

You have four possible networks, GTN, CTV, SRC, and CBC. They are all analog only, no digital or HD. I don't know the plans for digital in Nova Scotia.

If I lived there I'd consider a Winegard HD-5030 aimed at 345° for CTV on channel 2 and CBC on channel 7. Next I'd get a any old UHF antenna aimed at 106° for GTN on channel 20.

Add the two antennas together with a UVSJ. If you would like to improve the signal strength on the VHF channels add a Winegard AP-3770 VHF only preamp.

Other options include a three/four antenna array or a rotator.

That sounds really complicated...as I'm new to this, much of it doesn't make sense to me I could just use a regular old set-top antenna? why do I need two different antennas or set-ups to get only 3 channels? I'm not able to get those 3 buy purchasing just one antenna/piece of equipment?

It might work for 3 stations, but it may be hard to find a single antenna position for all stations simultaneously.

Here are some simple Non amplified indoor Tv antennas. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 . Aim the simple Non amplified indoor antenna at about 211 true - 229 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html . The antenna pointing web site seems to be down lately , you can try typing it in your self.

Set the Tv to scan for - TV , the broadcast analog Tv channels. DTV is broadcast digital channels. CATV is cable Tv analog channels. CADTV is cable Tv digital channels.
