Antenna Advice

I am a newbie that has cut the cord from Dish Network. I am tired of playing the game a losing money. I have a Terk tv50 antenna in my attic that works OK, but I would like a little better reception so my TiVo can record at any time. Does anyone have a suggestion on a better antenna that I could mount in the attic? I think it will be around 18 feet off the ground and my attic has standard shingles over wood. I am not a big fan of getting on my roof, so I prefer to keep it that way. Here is my reception report:

For reception of the Tv stations/channels to the , north/west , west , south west , south.
In the attic install a Antennas Direct DB4e UHF antenna aimed at about 260 degree magnetic compass.
And also install a Antennas Direct C5 VHF antenna aimed at about 200 degree magnetic compass. The C5 comes with a combiner to combine the DB4e and the C5 on to one coax.

Also install a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp connected to the output of the combiner.

Most attics have electric power , so install the preamp the preamp power supply and preamp power inserter/injector , all parts of the preamp , in the attic.

You should be able to use a much simplier system. I would recomend an RCA ANT751. This is a UHF/VHF antenna and should receive all of the UHF to your South and Southwest, including the only VHF channel in your report, 8 PBS at 200 degrees. The amplifier should not be needed unless you have a long run of coax and/or you are hooking up multipul sets.

I think the deciding factor between these two recommendations is WPXA, the ION station. Being the last network to arrive in many markets, ION usually ends up on a station located on the outskirts, and this is the case here. Electron's two-antenna recommendation will get you that station. Signals Unlimited's one-antenna recommendation will probably not pull it in reliably.

If you want ION programming, then we can discuss ways to save a few dollars. Electron's recommendation has you spending some money to get as close to "plug and play" as you can.

All of the recommended antennas are directional. When aimed towards the South for your core channels, neither of the recommended systems are a sure bet for the ION station. If ION is a must have you should consider adding a second small antenna, such as the Antennas Direct DB-2 pointed towards the Ion station. This would involve using another coax and an A/B switch. These directional antennas are designed to receive from the front end. Any reception from a direction more than 20-30 degrees from the main lobe (depending on the antenna) is residual and should be relied on.

Install the recommended antenna system for reception of the , green , yellow , and down in to the red reception zone.

WGTV-DT 8 PBS is the direction of 181 degree true / 186 degree magnetic compass.
