Attic/Roof? Please advise..

Hello,

I'd like to tell my cable company "Hasta la vista" but need to figure out the OTA reception at my home. I live on a hill with no obstructions in a Sacramento suburb (Lincoln) and tried an indoor antenna (Mohu Leaf) this past weekend with disappointing results. My family would be happy with receiving the basic, main network channels such as CBS,NBC,ABC,PBS. Here is my Reception Report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...67d902281a99f7

I'd like to ask what antenna and proper accessories you'd advise me to purchase and where I should mount it? Of course attic would be 1st choice if it will pull in the channels needed.

When you click on the links in your TV Fool report you can see the path profile each signal travels to arrive at your location. For example, the path profile of K22FR: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...dALLTV%26n%3d7 which shows a hill just south of your location.

Because the hill obstructs your 'view' of the signals south of you, I believe you'll need to use a roof or tower mounted antenna to see the major networks. You can certainly try in the attic though.

I would opt for a roof mounted antenna, using a 3' or 5' tripod and 10' mast section. I'd use a deep fringe antenna such as the Winegard HD7698P together with an Antennas Direct CPA-18. Aiming at about 183° I'd expect to see the networks you list plus others.

Thanks GroundUrMast for looking over my situation and giving your advise. My home is about halfway up that hill to the south. I'm impressed with the detail of the TV Fool report. It would explain why I couldn't receive much with the indoor antenna. If I wanted to try attic antenna, what antenna would you recommend? I researched the size of Winegard HD7698P and it won't fit into my attic.

You would be able to see some signals with a DB-8, U8000 or CM-4228.

If you and I lived next to one another, you'd see at least one antenna on my roof.

The default antenna height is 10 feet for the tvfool radar reports. Please make two more radar reports , one at 25 feet and one at 40 feet , with the exact address. Also how many tv's will be connected??
