Help Selecting Antenna...

Hi,

We recently moved to the country and need assistance in selecting the right equipment so that we can watch a few OTA channels.

The house is a one story.

The antenna height will be at least 15 feet from the ground mounted on a chimney.

The strongest NBC and The CW is , WVIR-DT 32 at 3 degree magnetic compass , and , ABC , FOX , This Tv , MyNetwork , The Cool Tv , PBS , CBS , Antenna Tv , are at 51 degree magnetic compass. If you will like to receive more channels now or at a later date. Then install a Winegard YA1713 aimed at about 302 degree magnetic compass to receive WSET-TV channel 13 , The Retro Tv Network and ABC. . Also install a Winegard HD-9032 aimed at about 182 degree magnetic compass for the reception of WRPX-DT channel 15 ION Television , WRAY-DT channel 42 IND. , WUNP-Tv 36 PBS. . Connect the YA1713 and the HD-9032 together with a , UVSJ = UHF-VHF-Separator-Joiner. A Antennas Direct CPA-19 will be connected to the output of the UVSJ. The YA1713 and HD9032 and UVSJ and CPA-19 , make up a complete antenna system that has a coax that goes to the location of the tv. This antenna system Is Not connected to the DB4e antenna coax , the DB4e and CPA-19 preamp are a separate coax that goes to the location of the tv. At the location of the tv a , Radio Shack # 15-1968 , remote control A/B antenna switch will select one antenna system or the other. These antennas pointed in the directions will receive All the receivable networks.

Do you think I might pick up some other channels even if I don't buy the additional antennas?

More tv stations. The tv signals are weak at your location , I don't think so , the only way to find out is to put the antenna up and see.

If I were in your shoes, I would use go for a single 91XG on a rotator to receive a full compliment of networks.

If a rotator is undesirable, I would use 2 91XG's with a separate run to each set. One would point towards Richmond & the other towards C-ville. Select between the 2 antennas with an A-B switch.

Richmond's NBC 12 has been problematic for many fringe viewers (including me) so I woudn't advise spending any money on a separate antenna for that particular station.

Yes, either a Channel Master 7777 or Winegard 8275.

Will a 91 XG receive WSET-TV 13 ABC / Retro Tv Network?? Using the two separate antennas aimed to the west and north east as two separate systems with a A/B switch means that if WRPX ION , WRAY IND. , WUNP PBS are to be received to the south , a third separate coax will go to the tv.

At this point I'm confused as to what to buy. All I want to pick up are the channels in Richmond, VA. Please advise what I need.

The tv stations receptions at your location are weak to very weak of signal strengths. I gave a detailed explanation to get a full line up and the reasons why and what will be received. Has the other helper done that?? Ask the other helper to explain.

If you want to keep things simple, a 91XG aimed at Richmond will get you all the major networks with the exception of NBC. You will also get Antenna TV, This TV, My TV, Cool TV & the Live Well Network.

Adding a rotator will add NBC from Charlottesville & a few additional networks from Lynchburg & North Carolina.

A preamp will help with either scenario. I recommend either the Channel Master 7777 or Winegard 8275.

I'm didn't recommend a VHF antenna since it will require a more complicated system & I personally feel the available signal strengths are too marginal for reliable reception. The Retro TV Network would be a nice addition, but my experiences with VHF at those distances has not been favorable.

"The difference between the 91XG and the DB4e is huge". . These open ended statements that the question askers do not understand is Not Good. I recommend Stop Doing It. There are helpers here at tvfool that like to through in Zingers. They provide no useful information for the Zingers they through in. The Zingers are only meant to stir things up. On the surface it looks like useful information , It Is Not. The moderators will not stop them from doing it. It is not only the 91XG/DB4e issue , the life we live on this planet loaded with this kind of stupid stuff. The moderators will be here and delete all that I have said here.

I recommend the DB4e because it has a wide forward beam width , forward beam width is the angle to the right and left sides of the front of the antenna that the antenna will receive tv stations. At your location WVIR-DT 32 NBC and the group of stations at 51 degree magnetic compass are widely spaced apart , so aim the DB4e between the stations and receive in both directions. The 91XG has a very narrow beam width. The antennas and hardware I recommended will receive the most tv stations with the fewest antennas.
