Antenna advice request

I am so glad to have stumbled across this web site!

The cable TV provider (Allegiance) shut off their service to our small town last week.

Our home has cable TV outlets throughout.

Is it possible to simply remove the cable TV input and connect an antenna to the existing external splitter?

Would I need some type of signal booster(s) to get through to each TV in the house? If so, what type and where?

And which antenna would you recommend for the TV stations located south of us in this report:

A simple reception situation.

Many Digital Broadcast Tv Channels will be received.

Above the roof install a Winegard HD7696P antenna aimed at about 185 degree magnetic compass direction.

Install the antenna above the roof in such a manner that the roof or the house is not restricting or blocking reception in the the directions of , south and north west.

Install a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house.

As always , it is best install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own house.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

You have a fairly easy situation.

Yes, you can disconnect the cable drop from the splitter and insert your antenna signal. If the existing cable in the house has been providing reliable cable service, it should be fine for OTA also.

I would try this with no amplifier, you can add one later if the need is proven.

As far as an antenna suggestion goes, an Antennas Direct DB4e facing south would be my choice.

If you want to see the signal from KQTV, in addition to the other ABC affiliate, KMBC, you can add a second antenna pointed at 307°. An Antennacraft Y5713, Y10713 or Winegard YA1713 would work. You can combine the two antennas (UHF & VHF) using a UHF/VHF Signal Joiner (UVSJ).

@teleview, A multi-band (CH-7-69) type antenna aimed south would have no VHF signals to receive. Perhaps I'm overlooking something?

Quick follow-up: installed the DB4e today, connected it to the existing cable input. Now getting 21 channels of crystal clear reception, no amplification needed. Thanks again for your help
