Need antenna bearing and amplifier advice.

Firstly, thank you to the people of this forum for assisting us newbies. Yesterday I eve mounted an RCA ANT751 to the side of my house. Elevation is approximately 15ft and I currently have it pointed at 76 degrees.

1.) Is this the best bearing to aim it at?

I started flicking through the channels; covered in fiberglass from running the cable through the attic. I thought disaster, no channels. I hit the auto-program and picked up 11 instantly. Hahaha. The first thing on was NBC's America's Got Talent. Picture was proper HD w/ no artifacts. Sharon Osbourne's voice, though terrible sounding, was coming in properly. However, I heard crackles in the lower registers of Howard Stern's voice. I will continue to watch for this audio problem. The cable run is 50ft on a RG-6Q cable. Cable is currently connected directly from antenna to television, but will eventually pass from:

Antenna ---Coax--->Surge Device ---Coax---> Receiver ---HDMI---> TV

2.) Could an amplifier at antenna be beneficial? Sorry, but I know of no way to measure signal.
3.) Is signal path acceptable? Will ground surge device with #10 to common ground.

The antenna would best be aimed a bit more towards due east, perhaps a bit south of that.

It's pretty unlikely that re-aiming the antenna will improve either Sterns' or Osbourne's voices. If there are defects in the audio, the problem will be in either the receiver or the audio system.

You have plenty of signal power, no amplifier is needed. Cable path is fine.

Audio may have been an isolated event from a poor source. I have never heard audio crackle from receiver in the year it has been hooked up, and I listen at reference levels to much more complicated content.

How do you guys discern where to point it? Do you just kind of take an average of all available transmission?

I pointed it at FOX since that is the VHF (76 degrees). Is the UHF very directional as well?

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

In the past it looks like there has been No Broadcast TV PBS station for the Beaumont Tx area.

That is about to change,

Due to new FCC Federal Communications Commission rulings , Digital Tv stations can now have PBS channels and Commerical Tv channels on the Digital Tv stations main channel and sub channels.

Example. KUMY-LD REAL UHF channel 22 , RTV RETRO TV NETWORK , will now also have SETX Public Television as one or more of the digital channels.

Also , K06PM-D REAL VHF channel 06 that was silent not transmitting , is now , http://beaumont.thistv.com.

The VHF Tv low band channels of 2 thru 6 are the new Beach Front Property for Tv transmission.

The signal strength of KUMY is Very Weak at your location with tvfool radar plot report of 10 foot antenna height.

Please make 2 more tvfool radar plot reports of 25 and 40 feet antenna heights for improved signal strengths and then I can recommend antenna/s and etc.

Again I'm am amazed by help and information. Plot bearing may be a slight degree different as I used the map feature for the first one, but had to use address to set elevation.

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

No less the 25 feet above ground , install a Antennas Direct DB4e antenna aimed at about 120 degree magnetic compass direction.

And install a Antenna Craft CS600 aimed at about 95 degree magnetic compass direction.

Connect the 2 antennas together with a UVSJ = UHF/VHF Separator/Joiner.

Type these letters -> uvsj , in the , http://www.solidsignal.com , search box.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter , use no amplifier.

For 2 Tv's connected use a Channel Master CM3412 distribution amplifier.

For 3 or 4 Tv's connected use a CM3414 distribution amplifier.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcas Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channel' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.
