I am hooked! Help with Reception

Ok so I already knew I was leaving cable. I have a home theater pc with tv tuner hooked to a cheap outdoor china anntenna and getting most of all the channels Except for 8 CBS and 10 ABC (but I have an Idea on how to fix this and really havnt spent to much time dialing it in yet). I wanted to know what you guys thought would be my best set up ($$$$) for possibly picking up more channels in the red area. I have an idea this is a long shot but is it possible?

2nd part to my question is; say the reds were totally out of the question should I get two seperate anntenas that I can attic mount one for VHF and one for UHF because they are in opposite directions? If long distance isn't an issue I would perfer to attic mount but If I have a chance at picking up on LA's channels then that thing will be high in the sky .

There are multiple ways to address this location using quality antennas.

Select a two antenna system for reception of the SD majors from Chula Vista.

Aim a high-VHF antenna towards La Jolla for channels 8 & 10. Aim a UHF antenna towards Mt Miguel to your north-east for the rest of the San Diego major stations. No rotor required but there may be several omissions in the number of stations received vs. those possible.

Because the CW affilitate broadcasts from Tijuana, the UHF antenna may need to be rotated to the south for better reception of it. There is a low-power VHF station that also operates from Mt Miguel on VHF 9 which will effectively drown out channel 9 from LA.

Reception of the LA stations is hard to predict due to strong adjacent and co-channel operations. I wouldn't plan on their being reliable would except that some of them will come in some of the time, especially during periods of temperature inversions.

Great info I appreciate it. I know this question Is asked many many times on here but I wanted to see what you guys thought of having a winegaurd HD-9032 UHF Antenna and a winegaurd YA-1713 VHF Antenna both in a large attic.

Is the preamp in the right place? Any recommendations?

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

Above the roof Install a ANT751 UHF/VHF antenna aimed at about 1 degree magnetic compass direction.

The ANT751 will receive at the front and back of the antenna for the reception of the digital Tv stations/channels to the , north west , north , north east , south east.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter and no preamp.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter , no preamplifier.

For 3 Tv's connected use a common simple 3 way splitter , no preamplifier.

The Digital Tv stations/channels in the Green and Yellow reception zones are very strong and should be received.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the directions of reception.
