Missing 2 DTV Channels

We have always received CICT and CBRT analog TV signal via our VHF/UHF antenna (CM3679). This past winter/spring we occasionally received the digital signal for CICT. Since Sept 1 we no longer receive any programming even though the station (2.1) is present on our Sony TV. CBRT is not detected after repeated scanning. We receive digital Channels 4.1, 5.1, 32.1, 38.1. A tech at the CICT station suggests that signal may be too weak (Sony diagnostic sig str 39 -61) for my antenna and may need to upgrade to higher gain UHF (e.g. CM4221). Here's my report:

Appreciate any help you can provide.

The terrain between you and the Calgary transmitters makes it tough for digital TV reception in your area, but your noise margin figures are still in positive numbers, so reception is still possible.

You didn't mention the presence of a preamplifier, nor did you mention how many TV sets you are running from your antenna, but if you are not using a preamplifier, adding one is likely to help you. If you are using multiple TV sets, a preamplifier is guaranteed to help you!

You may want to look at the AntennasDirect PA-19, which has plenty of gain, and has a very low noise floor. Other good choices would be a Winegard AP-8275 or an AntennaCraft 10G202. I would change out your antenna only if a preamplifier doesn't help you.

it seems odd that you can see 21.1 (CBC Calgary) which, on paper, has a much weaker signal at your location than the Global station.

Look for corroded antenna and coax connections outside. How many tv's are connected?? Is any type or kind of preamp or distribution amplifier connected?? The pending applications included shows that the tv stations are to the north.

Tv Antennas and Reception

The Canada digital conversion date of Aug. 31 2011 has came and went. Even so there is still a mix of digital stations and analog stations in many areas of Canada. Here is information about Canada digital and analog tv. http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblan...da_TV_stations , http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/117022 , http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/105462 , http://www.digitalhome.ca , http://www.friends.ca , http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/home-accueil.htm , http://www.canada.com/entertainment/...ion/index.html , http://digitaltv.gc.ca/eng/1282825334983/1282825604404 , http://www.saveandreplay.com , http://www.trentondistributors.com
