Aylmer,QC - Looking for advice on antenna selection

Hi,

With the new HDTV signals available I was hoping to be able buy an antenna to immediately get up and running, but after a bit of research I'm finding this to be a little more complicated than the rabbit ears. I was thinking of replacing an existing non-functional bell expressview dish at the top of my chimney with a new antenna using the existing coax cable to my TV. My tvfool report is as follows:

Any advice on getting the maximum digital channels with a single chimney mounted antenna would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

A single character was somehow deleted from your TV Fool report link.

Can you confirm that this is your TVFR? http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...ec1274b2bb0bd9

It sounds like you may already own an indoor antenna. True? (You mentioned "the rabbit ears")

An analog only TV will not be made digital capable with the addition of an antenna, even if the antenna is sold as 'HD-ready' or 'digital-ready'. Does your television have a tuner capable of decoding digital television (ATSC) signals? If not do you have a DTV converter?

I would suggest a Winegard HD7000. I would point it toward the SE and expect it to receive the signals from that direction and also the stronger signals from the NW. You should not need to use a rotator.

If the satellite coax has remained dry internally, it can be re-used in this application.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
