Southwestern New York Antenna Help Needed

My brother lives in a rural valley and lost TV reception with the switch to digital tv. He previously got a few analog channels out of Rochester and Buffalo. I put together a system for him which he mounted on a short mast on his roof. The antennas are probably about 15 feet off the ground. He is not able to get anything. I'm considering moving it to a tower and using RG11 but the question is how high? Is there any hope? Any suggestions?

The only height limit is cost effectiveness and Im guessing the most it is worthwhile spending is around 50 feet.

That's looking a bit bleak so far... Even if it's not feasible, what does 100' & 200' AGL look like?

The tvfool radar map and channel list at 15 feet and 50 feet antenna heights shows a group of Digital Tv stations channels to the west that should be received.

Install and aim Only the 91XG UHF antenna at about 295 degree magnetic compass direction.

Do not install and do not use the VHF high band antenna.

Do not use any of the connectors or combiners that connect the 91XG and the VHF high band antenna together.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

The following UHF channels should be received.

WIVB-DT , REAL UHF Digital channel 39 , virtual number (4.1) , CBS.

WNYO-TV REAL UHF Digital channel 49 , virtual number (49.1) , MyNetwork.

WKBW-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 38 , virtual number (7.1) , ABC.

WGRZ-DT REAL UHF Digital channel 33 , virtual number (2.1) , NBC and Antenna Tv.

______

As a TEST to prove reception disconnect and remove all coupling hardware , disconnect and remove ALL parts of the preamp , remove the preamp , remove the preamp power injector , remove the preamp/power injector power supply.

Only the 91XG and a coax connected to the 91XG and the coax goes direct to one Tv.

Digital Tv tuners can develop -Digital Glitches- that are not cleared out with simple channel scans.

Do a double rescan , http://www.dtv.gov/rescan.html.

Something should be received , at least WIVB , CBS , should be received.

______________

The Digital Tv Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

_____________

Now connect the , preamp , power injector , power supply.

Do a double rescan.

Reception should be improved.

With the pointer directly over the place where the 91XG antenna is.

To see what happens to signal strengths.

Please make 5 more tvfool radar plot reports.

Go to the tvfool home page and click on >>Start MAPS<<.

Move the pointer to the spot where the receiving antenna is.

Make 5 more tvfool reports.

25 feet.

50 feet.
