Coax connector clarity

Hello all, I'm new here so bear with me. I don't know if this has been posted somewhere else before, if it has please drop me a link.

I'm curious about coax connectors specifically for RG6. If there is a best option for application. Example would be indoor vs outdoor connection to be made, what would be the best connector to use, a compression, twist, crimp or .... whatever else there may be?

Last but not least, if anybody has a method for testing a newly connected fitting on a feedline, a little more accurately than "hook it all up and see if it works" without having a large expense for equipment. I do have a multimeter and a cheap SWR meter for CB's ( I think it's a different Ohm though) in the "arsenal". Yeah I know, not much of an arsenal. Thanks to all who reply!!!

First choice: compression; most waterproof, but you must get the right size for YOUR RG6
Second choice: crimp, hex shape; it's what I use
Third choice: twist on; forget it, it falls off

Test the coax with your ohmmeter for shorts between center conductor and shield, with nothing else connected to it

Test the shield for continuity

Test the center conductor for continuity

If the ohmmeter leads can't reach both ends, short the far end and check for continuity at the near end (round trip)

The 50 ohm CB SWR bridge will not be useful for your 75 ohm OTA RG6 coax

Don't bend the coax into too small a radius; the center conductor can migrate through the foam dielectric and short to the shield.

Don't over tighten the connector; you can break the female jack off its circuit board.

Thumbs up Thanks again

Thanks for the heads up, that's some good info especially on not coiling up the coax too tight and the compression fittings being superior. Thanks again.
