What direction is the antenna pointed now?
Mounting on the backyard fence pole sounds like you aren't really serious about improving your reception. Forget an indoors antenna, if you want to do better.
I'd suggest you mount in the clear air above your roof, as high as you can go.
You have a lot of stations around 240 degrees magnetic. Point the antennas that way, and the more sensitive/bigger, the more stations you will get. This is my Antennas Direct DB8e and Antennacraft Y10713 with an Antennacraft 10G221 mast-mounted preamp.
The other smaller antenna is for FM. Moutn the antennas high, above the tree line and clear of any buildings or other obstructions in the direction of the transmitters, point both panels of the DB8e and the Y10713 at magnetic 240 and you'd get lots of stations.
