first timer, want to use antenna in Athens GA

I am planning discontinuing my satellite service within the next month. I live pretty far away from TV stations, but would like to see if using an antenna is possible or not.

corrected to 25 ft.
Signal Analysis for 30606

I would like to get these stations:

Station, NM value
----------------------
ABC, 14.8
FOX, 14.1
NBC, 13.3,
CW. 5.8, co-channel warnings.
CBS, 2.9 co-channel warnings.

I own a house and can mount an antenna on the roof (or chimney if necessary).
There are no trees around the house.

1) With the right equipment, what are my chances of getting good reception from these stations? I would hate to spend a lot of money for little or no return.

2) If an antenna is a viable option, would the "4 Bay Bowtie" be the best option, or is there a better one? Also, would a preamp help? If so, which would be a good one to purchase?

3) According to this site's "Online TV Maps", these stations all broadcast from two general vicinities: Atlanta GA & Greenville SC. That being said, would a directional antenna pointed at one city be a better choice? Is the 4 bay bowtie considered directional?

4) Would two (or more) different antennas ever be needed?

5) I have 2 TVs that I would like to have reception. What needs to be done for this?

Interactive TV Coverage Browser

This is a really awesome web site. Before discovering this web site today, the only other site I knew of was antennaweb.org, which said that I would not be able to get any of these channels. I am very optimistic!

Thanks,
-John

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

The tvfool radar report you posted has 0 feet antenna height.

Please make a tvfool radar report with a antenna height of 25 feet.

Antennaweb and Antennapoint are both defective web sites.

It is Very Sad that these two web sites are still operating and misleading people with Bad Non Correct information.

The owners do not correct them or take them down.

The following is a Teleview recommendation for Digital Broadcast Tv Reception..

At your location with a antenna height of 25 feet.

For the South Carolina Digital Tv stations/channels.

The South Carolina Tv stations are weak but receivable with a antenna height of 25 feet.

Aim a Winegard HD7698P antenna with a KitzTech model - KT-200-COAX TV Antenna Booster Remote Power Coax Fed preamp at about 35 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/Tripods%200703/4712.html ,http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.kitztech.com.

___

To get the Best reception possible.

If the antenna height were higher then 25 feet , say , 40 or 60 feet , signal strengths will likely improve for both Atlanta and South Carolina.

Please make 2 more tvfool radar reports with antenna heights of 40 and 60 feet to have a look at signal strengths.

___________

I wil return with more information.

Thanks for all the info. This is exactly what I was looking for.

40 feet

60 feet

I live in a neighborhood (no ordinances), so I don't know if they would complain about this or not. Also, my wife may not be to thrilled about this idea either. Does it look like I need the 40 feet for good reception?

Do you still recommend the ronard for these heights? Or might I need a different pole?

Thanks,
-John

->ALL<- Questions and Answers about Broadcast Tv Reception and More.

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

I rarley use this word -> WOW , at 40 feet antenna height that made the Georgia , Digital Tv stations/channels Vary Receivable.

NBC , ABC , CBS , PBS , FOX , CW , MyTvNetwork , Me-Tv , and many more channels.

And the South Carolina Tv stations stayed about the same , weak signal strength.

I recommend aim the HD7698P antenna at Atlanta , about 275 degree magnetic compass direction.

And the Tv signals have increased to the point that can back down on the amplifier/booster.
With the stronger Tv signals I now recommend a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

Buy the 2 way splitter at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www,solidsignal.com.

So thats HD7698P antenna and CPA-19 preamp at 40 feet above ground.

And with no trees or other obstructions , thats extra gravy on the mashed pottatos.

Here are some ways to get the antenna to 40 feet , http://www.3starinc.com/telescopic_masts_and_more.html.

Light weight , aluminum , free standing , lay over tower , Do all antenna installation and adjustments , Standing on the ground.
