Western Maine Reception

Here is the TV analysis for our place in western Maine mtns:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aec3d129ab30

Key things I know is want to get more channels, we get NBC, CBS and PBS and a local news/weather station, want Fox and more. I believe we need rotator because wind and weather gets rough during winter in Maine and no one will be climbing on the roof to alter direction. (however if you experts out there don't think necessary please say so, $ can be better spent) Pre-amp needed and splitter for hook up to 3 tv's, one on each level of house.

Equip I have researched and want to know if right for this job are:

Wingard HD8200U antenna or HD Stacker.
Pre-amp have no opinion on.
Rotator I'm sold on Channel Master 9521A.

Any and all guidance SO appreciated. Want to order asap and get this up before the snow flies.
thx
di

The Tvfool report shows a antenna height of 30 feet above ground , do you have a way to install the antenna that high now??

------------

A Big Strong antenna is required for reception.

Install a Winegard HD7698P antenna aimed at about 173 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

------------

Install a Winegard, LNA-200 'Boost' XT , antenna system amplifier.

------------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the HFS splitters at , www.solidsignl.com.

--------------

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. .

www.amazon.com

Western Maine Reception

Hi, thx for input. Wondering why no comment to HD stacker antenna ot 8200u. The 8200u which has same dbgain as 7698 as seen on Wingard site.

HD stacker is an easier size for my husband to install due to stacking technology and is stated built for strong winds/heavy duty as is stated to the 8200.

I am trying to understand here.... 3 different forums/antenna suggestions have suggested 3 different antennas, all listed above. Costs are within $20 of each other.

Question is what truly are the differences.

Question: looking at gain charts on Winegard site the 7698 doesn't show dbgain for channels 2,4 and 6....but the 8200 does. If you can explain why much appreciated.

To answer question in reply, antenna is 30 ft up, house built into hill and side it is going on is walk out side, 3 stories up.

Again thx for any and all info!

That's because the 8200 is a 2-69 antenna and the 7698 is a 7-69 antenna (it has no extra-long, 6-10', elements).

No one here that knows about antennas buys into Denny's sales pitch for the Stacker.

Based on the broadcast channels in use in your area, you don't need low-VHF channel reception. W04BS and W03AM are repeaters for WCCB with is easily receivable on VHF channel 10. The other VHF signal shown on channel 4 is too low of power to be receivable. That leaves you with a requirement for a long range antenna that provides coverage for channels 7-51 (or 69).

You can probably get a bit better performance out of separates rather than a 14' long antenna on your rotor. The most common combo is the 91Xg plus a 10-element high-VHF unit from Antennacraft or, if still available, Winegard. Add a decent two-input, medium gain pre-amp like the Antennacraft 10G221 or the RCA pre-amp and that's about as good as you're going to get.
