Best Antenna for Alberta

Hello

Here is my TV Signal Analysis Results:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1dda57e887cd70

What antenna type would be the best to pick up all the digital signals in the North-East quadrant. They have a 37* split will I need two antennas?

The UHF signals are weak but still worth trying for. I'd use an Antennas Direct DB4e... high gain and wide forward beam width.

An Antennacraft Y10713 or Winegard YA1713 would be the right tool for the signal on real CH-12.

Antennas Direct PA-18 preamp or an Antennacraft 10G222 would be options to consider for preamplifiers. If you go with the PA-18 you would need a UHF/VHF combiner.

Thanks for the quick response.
I am using a home made whisker antenna (thank-you Utube) with a reflector that I made now and it picks up 3 channels. Anywhere from 50 to 70% reception. With lots of trees around.
Do you think a pre-amp would be necessary.

Cheers

OK doing the internet search for the Direct DB4e and I'm finding multiple ads at wildly different prices ($50-$119). Some even show a different antenna for the same brand and model...
What is a reputable source.
Was going to try Best buy but it looks like they don't sell it in Canada.

Thanks

If you have a short run of cable (less than 50') and only one tuner, you may not need the preamp. The amplifier overcomes the loss in cable, splitters and can help overcome some of the noise generated inside the tuner.

Check the Antennas Direct website, they have a link for Canadian customers.

A simple reception situation.

The current Tv stations/channels being transmitted and received , Canada , USA , Mexico , are.

VHF low band channels 2 thru 6.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF channels 14 thru 51.

Your location has receivable Tv stations/channels.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

Install a Winegard YA1713 VHF high band channels 7 thru 13 antenna aimed at about 42 degree magnetic compass direction.

And install a Antennas Direct DB4e , UHF channels 14 thru 51 antenna aimed at about 15 degree magnetic compass direction.

Connect the 2 antennas together with a Antennas Direct UHF/VHF combiner/diplexer.

Antennas Direct EU385CF-1s .

Connect the YA1713 to the VHF connection of the combiner.

Connect the DB4e to the UHF connection of the combiner.

The remaining connection of the combiner is connected to a Antennas Direct PA-18 preamp.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , do a good job of , absorbing , multi-path reflecting , blocking , Digital broadcast Tv stations/channels and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select . 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

So I finally got the DB4e installed and I am getting CKEM, CJEO as well as CBXT and CKES all Digital and good reception but unable to pick up CFRN or CITY.
With my home made antenna I was able to recieve CFRN and CITY but not the others. I have rotated the antenna to cover the Northwest quadrant but still cannot pick them up.
Any ideas.

I have decided not to go with the YA1713 because I'm not interested in the analogue signals. So I just have the one antenna to deal with.

Thanks

Sorry guys I have reread your post several times now and I see that I will need the YA1713 to receive the channels up to 13.
I was confused because my home made bow-tie antenna picked them up.

Thanks again

I'll try the other antenna and let you know.

Well I finally got the parts and have installed as you instructed.
I am getting all the channels that I was expecting and they are coming in between 60 and 89%.
I'm trying this without the Pre-amp to see how well the come in. Seems Ok..
Well worth the time and money.
Thanks again for all your help.
