Yes I will recommend the new DB2 and DB4. The elements are sized to receive channels 7 thru 51 a little better. Looks like will make a good short to medium range antenna.

The new DB2 and DB4 are nearing completion. We were able to show pre-production samples of each antenna last month at CEDIA.

Our design engineer, John Ross, has squeezed as much performance out of the re-scaled bow-ties as he could. As a result, the new DB2 will have almost the same gain as the "old" DB4 and the "new" DB4 is almost equal to the "old" DB8 at 700 MHZ. Sliding the gain curve downward so it peaks around 700 MHZ does cause the antenna to grow in physical size. The new antennas will be around 20-25% physically larger than their predecessors.

We hope(!) to to be shipping around the end of this year.

I ordered a DB2 today, before I saw this message. I don't know if I am getting the new or old DB2. Is there a way to check, once I receive the antenna? It's already on its way to me.

The best for you to do is go to Help with Reception part of tvfool and post your situation there with the radar plot and all that. The old DB 2 is a very good UHF antenna and you could be fine with it.

Are the new designs shipping yet? I don't see any mention of them on the Antennas Direct site.

When they're available, they will be on the website.

As of last week, we're still pinning down pre-production details, so it will be a while longer.

Additionally, we have been taking our time to see what the FCC is going to do since they could make the whole project and the antenna business moot.

Stay tuned.

Have you heard something that we are not aware of about the antenna business possibly being moot? Many of us (with any experience in using OTA television) have heard these rumors over the last couple of years. However, it seems the FCC still continues to deny any intentions to remove the broadcast spectrum.

Any plans to offer a 7-69 or 7-51 design?

Other than adding a VHF dipole (7-13) to the C2 (initially, at least), there are no plans to do so.
