Antenna siting?

I live on a pretty wooded site near the top of a hill. Here is the tvfool report:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aeb7cac4295d

One question I have is will getting a more powerful antenna or amplifier help with getting the signal thru or over the trees? Im interested in getting channels in the 116-117 degree area. I tried an indoor mohu leaf ultimate which picked up several channels nearby, but the most critical ones, ABC CBS NBC did not come in clear. Several channel seemed to be clear but would break up and I'm assuming that is because of the trees.

I'm assuming that an amplifier only will improve or help the signal get from the antenna to the tuner and adding a more powerful one won't help the reception.

Is there anything that will help clear up the signal or is the only option to get higher than the trees... that would be about 40-50 feet...

Thanks

You're right, amplifiers are for pushing a signal through the loss of cable and splitters. They don't 'pull' signal out of the air or an antenna.

Given the trees, a Winegard HD7698P or the 'big guns' (an Antennas Direct 91XG and Antennacraft Y10713) are not overkill IMO. If you have more than 50' of coax between the antenna(s) and the TV, add an RCA TVPRAMP1R preamplifier. If mounting outdoors, below tree top level leaves you with unreliable reception, you'll need to consider options that would put the antenna(s) safely above tree top height.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , in the directions of reception , have Negative effect on broadcast Tv reception , and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house in directions of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or ' Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some digital tuners will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.
