San Antonio, TX Antenna Selection

Hello,

First let me say this forum is very informative. I have learned more about OTA than I realized. Thanks to everyone.

We are cutting the cable cord and would like suggestions for an antenna setup for best reception. I live in San Antonio, Texas. My signal analysis is: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1dda3b17bc72aa. The antenna will be mounted on top of the house, approximately 30 ft high. My plan is use the Time Warner cable box as the splitter. I have 3 tv's in the house. The cable runs will be between 60' to 80'. They run around the outside of the house.

We would really like to pick up KCWX. KCWX carries the Texas Rangers baseball games locally.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Though your TV Fool Report is flagged with the cautionary statement, "WARNING: Address was only resolved to zip code level and might not be that close to your actual location. For more accurate results, try entering a specific address or coordinates.", I presume the terrain is relatively flat...

If not for the specific goal of KCWX reception, a single antenna solution would be in order.

KCWX presents a couple of challenges. First, the stronger signal from KLRN on real CH-9 is going to offer some adjacent channel interference. Then the much weaker and distant KIII may on occasion produce some co-channel interference... this would be dependent on atmospheric conditions (weather). Still, I would certainly try for it, using a Winegard YA1713 pointed at 159°.

For the rest of the strong local stations, use a small 2 or 4-bay UHF antenna such as the Antennas Direct CS2, CS4 or DB4e --- Channel master CM-4220, CM-4221... Antennacraft & Winegard also have some similar options.

Combine the two antennas using a UHF/VHF combiner such as the Antennas Direct EU385CF.

The situation with KCWX is well known here at tvfool.

And has been covered ->several times<-.

KCWX is transmitting on VHF Low band channel 5.

KCWX has a construction permit to transmit channel 8.

The channel 8 transmitter was to come on line the summer of 2013 , however the channel 8 transmitter has now been pushed further out to the end of 2013.

KCWX is transmitting on VHF low band channel 5 and Will Continue to transmit on channel 5.

The transmitter is to the north west of your location.

The channel 5 signal strength is strong at your location.

Your location has receivable Digital Tv Channels in ALL 3 Tv bands.

VHF Low Band Channels 2 thru 6.

VHF High Band Channels 7 thru 13.

UHF Band Channels 14 thru 51.

The Best antenna to use for reception at your location is a Winegard HD7000R ALL Channel Antenna aimed at about 329 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

The Digital Tv stations are all around you at your location and are Strong Signal Strength.

The HD7000R antenna is not a very directional antenna and Will Receive the strong signals of Tv stations in the different directions with the HD7000R aimed in 1 Direction , about 329 degree magnetic compass direction.

No antenna rotator is required.

________

Install the HD7000R antenna above the roof in such a manner that reception is not blocked by the roof or house in all directions.

A Winegard DS3000 , J type antenna mount , will work very well with the HD7000R antenna.
_____________________________

-->The signal strengths are Strong at your location.

-->Do not install a signal amplifier.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's connected use a simple common 4 way splitter.

Here are more antenna mounts.

http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , use the 5 or 7 foot antenna mount.

http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , use the #4560 eave antenna mount.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box or by from ronard.

Here are places to buy antennas and etc. .

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , do a good job of , absorbing , multi-path reflecting , blocking , Digital Broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7000R antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

__________

The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels . often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmission travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels / 'Antenna Channels.
