Question totally confused about an antenna

Hi there, so glad I found you folks!

I'm looking at ditching Comcast but am concerned about reception. I have a tivo box with a cable card (but the card will have to go when Comcast does so I don't know how much good the Tivo will do me after that). The TV is a fairly new Samsung LN32D450G. I don't care about HD as much as clear reception. I only watch a few stations but they're ranging from yellow to green to grey according to this:

I guessed at the '25 feet high' because I'm on the 3rd floor of a 4 story building. There are windows to the north that face an airwell, there is an indoor wall on one side and the rest are outside walls. The building was built in 1897 so it's wood and has no insulation but I'm betting at least several coats of lead paint (lol!) I can mount an antennae on the roof if I need to.

Any advice would be great, there's so many options I was getting overwhelmed and confused.

Thanks!

Because of signal attenuation and multipath/reclections - signals bouncing all all around in the building and interference of electronic and electric devices.
Indoor Tv reception is not a reception friendly environment and never will be a reception friendly environment.

That said , The first 10 Digital Tv stations/channels in the tvfool channel list are Over The Top Strong Signal Strength and are High Lighted with Red and the Tv transmitters are Very Close at 1.1 miles away.

The other local Digital Tv stations/channels are Very Strong Signal Strength.

DO NOT use a antenna that has any type or kind of signal amplifier. And Do Not use any type or kind of external signal amplifier.
The Amplifier Will Over Load and be the cause of bad or no reception of some Digital channels.

Try a indoor antenna first , use a TERK , HDTVi Non amplified indoor antenna. (Not the HDTVa amplified antenna.)

For above the roof antenna use a Winegard HD7000R antenna.

A Winegard DS3000 , J type antenna mount will make a good antenna mount for the HD7000R antenna.

Aim the HDTVi , or , Hd7000R at about 175 degree magnetic compass , here is how to aim indoor and outdoor antennas.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

____________________________

As a Test to Prove Reception. Remove the Tivo Completely.

Connect the HDTVi antenna Directly to the Tv.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , "Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.
