First of all, I'm happy there is a place to learn and share experiences relating to cutting the cord.
Here's what I've done.
1. Disconnected from Directv after over 10 years of price hikes. After watching about 10-15 channels and paying for over 150 channels, I finally realized it wasn't worth it. I use Netflix streaming on my PS3 and rent Netlix dvds. I couldn't be more happier.
2. I have three tvs in a 2 story townhouse. One main tv downstairs, two upstairs in two bedrooms. I have 2 tvs using a Winegard 1080 mounted on the old Directv "J" pole. I'm in a suburb of L.A., so I'm about 30 miles, antenna pointing approximately North. I get great reception with the 1080.
The third tv is hooked up to a Channel Master Stealth antenna. (I did this separately when I had Directv. I didn't want to pay for additional boxes). The Stealth antenna is great!
Cutting the cord is one of the best decision I made. Thanks to Directv for leaving the coax cable and splitter for me to use. No amplifier used on either tv.
