I want to cut the cable cord, will I be able to? Advice Please

I'm new to OTA antenna's so I have no idea if i can get many local channels or not, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX etc. I live in southeastern Oklahoma, not close to any major cities.

Here is my tvfool report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...9900c9fa825223

What kind of outdoor antenna would I need to pick up the most channels? Is it even possible for me to get multiple channels? I noticed the NBC station on the report is 60 miles away, i'm guessing that's far for an antenna to pick up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks.

You have the right idea. Mounting outside in the clear is going to produce better results. I suspect signal conditions will improve if you can consider using a push-up mast. If so, run a new report at 60' to see what signal conditions look like. http://www.3starinc.com/telescoping_masts.html

A Winegard HD7698P equipped with an Antenna Direct CPA-19 would be able to receive signals down into the red highlighted section of your report.

With the addition of a rotator you would be able to fine tune aim of the weaker signals.

At first glance, you have access to ABC, CBS, NBC & PBS as well as several other 'newer' networks.

Are there trees in the area, if so, how tall and how dense?

How many TVs do you plan to connect and how long a run of coax would be needed to get from the antenna to the furthest TV?

thanks for the quick response, here is the new results at 60ft http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...990079d25e6a71

There are some trees in my area but they are not dense, they are spread out pretty good, about one good sized tall tree in each of my neighboors yard. 5-6 tall trees total on my block.

I'd like to run the antenna to two tv's but if i could just get my locals on one tv i would be happy.

so you think i could receive the signals in the red section with the right equipment? if so, i'd be happy with that.

For a variety of reasons, few people can actually mount at 60' AGL. But clearly, your situation gets better as you go up. You'll need to position the antenna to avoid aiming into trees.

Between 25' and 60', the HD7698P is a good choice in your situation. With the CPA19 you have enough signal power to drive a 2 or 3-way splitter and a reasonable amount of coax. At 60' the signal from KOKI could be reliable.

If feeding more than one TV, a rotator can be a source of frustration for the viewer with no control of the antenna aim. But mounting the antenna well out of reach is another reason to consider installing a rotator - you'd have the ability to 'tweak' the aim.

Tv Reception.

KOKI-DT UHF channel 22 FOX is Very Weak at -9.8 NM (dB) and 77.2 miles distance.

Please post 2 more tvfool radar reports at 40 feet and 60 feet antenna heights to see if the signal strength will come up.

Other Tv stations to the north north east are easier to receive and will be received at the 25 foot height.

In any event it will be a Winegard HD7698P antenna with a Winegard AP8275 preamp.

Aimed at about 0 degree magnetic compass (north).

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv,s connected use a , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , also available at , http://www.solidsignal.com.

HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

Or for 3 Tv,s connected

HFS-3D 3 way splitter.

Tv Reception.

There is a Tv station at 227 degree magnetic compass , KTEN-DT UHF channel 26 , Main digital channel NBC and sub digital channel , Texoma The CW and Texoma ABC.

To receive this Tv station aim a Winegard HD9095P antenna with a Winegard AP8700 preamp at about 227 degree magnetic compass.

The HD9095P/AP8700 - Will Not - be connected the other antenna system the HD7698P/AP8275 antenna system

The HD9095P/AP8700 and HD7698P/AP8275 are 2 Separate antenna systems.

The coaxes of the 2 Separate antenna systems will go to the Tv/s locations and connect to a A/B antenna switch at each location.

As you contemplate whether to install an antenna or not, I can offer that it's reasonable to expect reliable reception of signals with NM values as low as 0.0 dB. This is based on the performance of a Winegard HD7698P, an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp and mounting clear of obstructions such as trees and buildings. Weaker signals between 0.0 and -10 dB NM can also be received but as they get weaker, you should expect pixelization and or loss of signal to be more and more likely.

So, if you want to run another report at a practical level, you should have a 'ballpark' estimate to work with.
