Help with antenna selection in Cambria CA

Hi I here is my location report

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...001b89cb2e3449

and I am currently using this Terk antenna in my attic

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...?EdpNo=2417940

I have marginal reception from channel 12 in Santa Maria presently I get reception but I get a lot of pixelation on this channel like 40% reception. Can anyone recommend an antenna for attic installation that may work to improve the signal. Thanks

That you see more than two stations with your attic mounted antenna is quite remarkable. The data from your TVF report indicates that you would need to use the largest antennas available. An Antennas Direct XG91 or Winegard HD99095P would cover real channels 14 and up. An Antennacraft Y10713 or Winegard YA-1713 would provide reception of real channels 7 through 13.

I would recommend mounting these outside, in the clear where they can intercept the best available signal. Higher will be better, within the limits of safety and budget.

A dual input preamp such as the Winegard AP-2870 or Antennacraft 10G221 would serve to combine the signal and overcome loss in cable and splitters.

You would need to experiment with aim between 131° and 119° to find the most reliable signal from the available stations. The ...713 antennas are for high-VHF reception. The UHF and high-VHF should be mounted with at least 4' of separation from one another.

There are combination antennas available, but they do not have quite as much gain in the UHF band as the two UHF antennas I'm recommending. KCOY is on real channel 19 which is a source of confusion for some folks who only see the virtual channel number 12.1. Your best chance at receiving real channel 19, given your signal report, is with one of the large UHF antennas.

Hi thanks for the quick reply. I wanted to only use one antenna for all the channels that may be available to me, Is there a suitable antenna that can receive all the channel numbers VHF and UHF. And I have an HD TV so I am not sure if there is a different antenna that will work with the HD stations. Once again thanks for all of your help. I have not purchased a TV antenna for a long time so I am just starting all over again in the process.

Antennas have no 'awareness' of HD vs. SD, digital vs. analog.

The Winegard HD7698P would be a combo antenna to consider. It could be paired with an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp kit.

As you select progressively smaller antennas, expect less gain and less opportunity for reliable reception.

In this case, there is less than 2 dB difference in performance on channel 19. But you are at the threshold were every dB counts.

Specs for the HD9095P

Tv Antennas and Reception

The default antenna height of the radar report is 10 feet. Please post 2 more radar reports with the antenna heights at 20 feet and 35 feet. Higher antenna heights can get more Tv stations. Also read and understand about , REAL Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , Virtual Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , Analog Broadcast Tv Channels , http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=695 , Here is how to point Tv antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

By Googling the Tv stations call letters I found that , K09UF 09 is Telemundo , K28FK 50 is Telefutura , K16FC-D 16 is PBS , KKFX-CA 24 is FOX , KMMA-CA 41 is Tr3 spanish music videos , KASC-CA 7 is Azteca America , KSBO-CA 42 is Azteca America. More antenna height might get you a better line up of channels.

Can also use a Antennas Direct C5 VHF High band antenna in combination with a UHF antenna. The C5 comes with a combiner to connect the C5 with a UHF antenna on to one coax to the Tv.
