Equipment recommendation for Montgomery County, Maryland

Hi All.

I would love to get rid of DirecTV and go back to free programming. I only wish I had made that decision before I had my husband get rid of our old roof antenna.

We are in a good location as far as signals go. I can pick up everything I want to see with an indoor antenna, with the exception of ABC and CBS which are high VHF channels. I hoped that rabbit ears would solve that problem but they didn't.

Anyway, we would like to put an antenna in our attic and then run the signal out to 4 TVs. The longest cable would be about 40 feet. Would you nice folks please tell me what antenna and amplifier (if necessary) I should buy? The old man and I are pretty handy and should be able to install everything ourselves with only minor difficulties.

The smallest ANT 751 would work better outside than the larger antennas in the attic. Outside should not need a distribution amp, the attic location may.

The other side is that an attic antenna will last a long time and won't get exposed to lightning.

Being that you will be powering 4 TV's I recommend the Winegard 7694P antenna. I would try without an amplifier first since we don't know how much signal loss the attic install will present. If reception proves unreliable, I recommend the CM 3414 distribution amp to make up for the 4 splits.

Being that your location has low band channels 4 and 6 to the south east where the other channels you will be watching are at , I recommend a All Channel Winegard HD7082P antenna. And I also recommend the CM 3414 distribution amp.. No preamp at the antenna. You can put this antenna in the attic and see how well it works , however the roof is the best to receive tv signals. . From Wilipedia: WDCN-LP is a low-power television station in the Washington, DC area, broadcasting locally on channel 6. Currently broadcasting in Spanish, it was slated to adopt a dance music format under a lease agreement with Mega Media, a company which operates a similar station on channel 6 in New York City, WNYZ-LP. Like WNYZ, WDCN was supposed to be branded as "Pulse 87" and was slated to begin broadcasting in June 2009, but financial problems at Mega Media has put those plans in limbo. 87.75 FM is the center frequency of channel 6's audio signal, which can be received on most FM radios and thus makes a music format viable. [1] WDCN-LP is the flagship Spanish-language radio station for broadcasts of D.C. United soccer games.

Now, the question: do you in anyway care about receiving such a station? otherwise, the HD-7082p recommendation is superfluous

Forget about those low-VHF stations. Stick with the 7-51 designs.
