Antenna advice in Yale, Michigan
HI, and thanks in advance. I cut my Directv about 3 weeks ago and I am currently using Aereo for my locals. I'd like to be able to get them for free though. I was always under the assumption that I couldn't get an OTA signal at my house because Antenna web shows no coverage near me but I've been playing around at TVfool and now from tvfool it looks like I could possibly with an antenna. Here is my report:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e1c634f9e62fe9
I already have a mast on my roof back from the days when I had a wireless ISP and plan to use the coax from my satellite installation. From my reading I was thinking about the HD stacker antenna and a Winegard Boost XT LNA 200. Any thoughts and/or suggestions on this setup or something different anyone would recommend? I'm trying to keep the cost down but want to make sure that anything that I spend any money on is going to be worth the cost. Thank you.

Thank you for the response. I did find the HBU44 antenna that you recommended for sale at the Radio Shack near me for $80 so I think I'll go ahead and give it a try next weekend. I also like the idea about the fence pipe as a mast and will probably pick one of those up as well since that will give me a couple of more feet than what I was planning on having. I will also pick up the preamp.
Based on the numbers in my tvfool report then, is it reasonable to think that I should be able to pick up the major Detroit networks without too much of an issue? Or will I be cutting it close on noise margin? I know nobody can guarantee anything, I just want to make sure that my expectations are at the very least reasonable and I don't really want this project to turn into an awful job creep.
Thanks again Teleview!

I think you will be impressed with the number of Digital Broadcast Tv
Stations/Channels that are received.
-------
To Prove Reception.
Run a New Continues Length of Coax from the antenna through a open door or window , direct to 1 Tv.
No parts of the antenna system amplifier connected.
The Tv Must Channel Scan for the ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels
often named the ~ Antenna Channels ~ ATSC Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air
Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Broadcast Tv transmissions
travel through the Air from the Transmitting Antenna to the HBU44 Receiving Antenna.
DO NOT Channel Scan for Cable Tv Channels.
DO NOT Channel Scan for Analog Broadcast Tv Channels Only.
Go into the Tv Setup Menu and Select and Channel Scan for , ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels.
-------
As Always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own , attic , roof , building.
Some and not all Negative Effects are.
Absorbing and Blocking Reception.
Multi-Path Reflecting Tv Signals Bouncing All Around.
The Best Practice for Reliable Reception is to install the HBU44 antenna at a Location that has the Least Amount to No Amount of Obstructions of Any Type or Kind in the Directions of Reception Including Your Own , Attic , Roof , Building.
The directions of reception at your reception location are , South South West , West , North West , South East , East.
-------
When reception has been Proved , then connect the antenna system amplifier and Rescan for ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels.
-------
The reason for all this information is so that you do not become lost and tangled up trying to figure out if ,
'this coax is bad or that coax is bad or that splitter is bad or some other splitter is bad and etc. .'
-------
-->All Parts<-- of the satellite system must be disconnected and removed.
Yes the coaxes of the satellite system can be used for the antenna system.
-------
For coax that is outside.
Do Not use Cheap Design Radio Shack Coax that has the molded connectors on the ends of the coax.
Do Not use coax that has the crimp type connectors on the ends of the coax.
Yes do use coax that has the Compression Type Connectors on the ends of the coax.
Home Depot and Lowes have the coax that has the Compression Type Connectors on the ends of the coax.

The cheapest good preamp is the TV-PRAMP1R.
Discounted antennas can be picked up at Solid Signal in Novi, MI if you ever get in that direction. A premium combination of a UHF only (HDB91X) and VHF only Y10-7-13 would be added in the specified preamp.

Update!
Well, I'm finished with my project. I figured since I posted and asked here it was only right to post my results. I did end up getting the HBU44 antenna (Thanks for the suggestion Teleview). Once mounted I was able to pull in 23 stations, that was without an amp. I was very happy with that except Fox and CBS did have some slight artifacting during the day (they were fine at night). My wife was thrilled and content. We got more stations than either of us were anticipating. Still, just for fun I wanted to add an amp just to see what difference if any it would make. I added the TV-PRAMP1R (Thanks for the suggestion Tower Guy) and after rescanning I am able to get 32 stations. This is the number that I get consistently during the daytime. At night I've pulled in as many as 49 and as far away as Bowling Green, Ohio, but I'll keep the honest number at 32 as an accurate count.
Total cost spent $80 for the antenna and $25 for the amp. I reused my satellite cabling (but cleaned it up some) and already had a mast. Best $105 spent in a long while!
Thanks!

How far down the channel list of the , Digital Current Plus Applications Included Broadcast Tv Stations Channel List is Reliable Reception Happening.

As always , a Tv antenna is installed and aimed at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the directions of reception for reliable reception.
As always , the antenna aim can be adjusted for best reception.
Most Digital Tv's have a , Signal Strength Meter , and some Digital Tv's also have a , Signal Quality Meter.
Signal Quality is Important for Reliable Reception.
---------------------
If are received.
A second Separate HBU44 antenna and antenna system can be installed.
