School me please! - Maple Ridge, BC

Please school me on everything I would need to send the HD signal to three TV's

TV Fool Report
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...5b943c71b720e5

Would like to get the HD feeds from Blaine / Bellingham WA, and Vancouver BC

I still have cable and no previous experience with OTA HDTV other than in my RV.

Would like to use the existing coax in the house and ideally would like a attic setup.

I have lots of room in my attic and the ridge line is running due North.
Roof is standard wood truss and asphalt shingles.

I would probably be ordering everything from the US unless its less in Canada.

Edit: Do you think I would need two antennas and a signal combiner? As a rotator is not feasible, eventually I will add a PVR such as Tablo

Hello Houseape,

I'm sure you've read the sentiments towards attic antenna installations around here. If not, we as a rule don't recommend them because you are forcing a signal to pass through solid matter (your roof) and with your antenna in the attic it becomes much closer to electrical noise and interference.

More importantly, for you K24IC-D (PBS) may not be reliable in your attic. You lose 20-30 percent of signal forcing it to go through your roof. That may strip the PBS translator of enough "ooomph" for reliable reception through solid matter.

All that said, if you have a chimney or have space on your roof to install a tripod it is recommended.

Mounting supplies: http://www.solidsignal.com/cview.asp...ing%20Supplies

You should be able to run an Antenna's Direct DB8e. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=DB8E&ss=22587. This antenna is a good fit for you because you have two major pathways of signals (magnetic 176 and 290). The DB8e allows for each panel to be orientated independent of each other. As such, install DB8e with best possible location with no obstructions in the directions of magnetic 176 and 290 and orientate each half of the antenna to those headings.

If installing on a tripod, before perminently mounting set up and drilling holes in your roof, on a non-windy day, test reception location for signals. You will need to purchase a 5' pole to mount on. The DB8e will come with hardware to mount to the pole.

With roof installation, you will not need a preamp if servicing 1 or 2 TVs. If you need more TVs serviced, then we can discuss.

Run drop of RG-6 coax from antenna to TV 75 ohm connector. Make sure TV is in "over the air" or "broadcast" mode and do scan.

Solid signal has nice custom length drops of coax for needs. http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=SSCBLS&ss=22597

You could go in the attic, but with the PBS translator being the weakest of the signals you want, the best chance at reliable reception is outdoors on K24IC-D.

Cheers.
