Trouble With Chan 5

I live in the mountains of East Tennessee. I am using Antenna craft 5884, planning to switch to Winegard 7084p for better gain on chan 5. If I understand signal analysis I should not have trouble receiving chan 5. Instead chan 11 is rock solid and 5 comes and goes. here is my signal analysis:

Suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

For following recommendation , the Antenna Craft 5884 is used only for reception of channels 5 and 11.

Aim the Antenna Craft 5884 antenna at Tv stations 5 and 11.

The receivable Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels to the North are VHF channels 5 and 11.

Recommend aim the 5884 at about 359 degree magnetic compass direction.

If the Antenna Craft 5884 does not provide reliable reception of channel 5.

Then step up to a Winegard HD5030 VHF channels 2 thru 13 antenna.

The HD5030 has been discontinued , however it looks like , www.warrenelectronics.com , has some in stock.

---------------------------

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

---------------------------

The tvfool radar report and channel list is showing that the receivable Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels to the South East are All Real UHF Channels.

The Current Real UHF channels are , 14 thru 51.

The Tvfool radar plot and channel list shows Real Channels and the (virt) Virtual numbers , the virtual numbers are not real channels , even if the virtual number is the same as the Real Channel.

For Maximum reception of the , Weak Signal Strength , UHF Tv stations/channels to the South East.

Aim a , Antennas Direct , DB8e UHF antenna at about 125 degree magnetic compass direction.

---------------------------

Install a , RCA TVPRAMP1R preamp.

Test reception with the FM trap , off and on.

Operate the RCA preamp in the Separate antenna mode.

Connect the 5884 or HD5030 antenna to the VHF connection on the RCA preamp.

Connect the DB8e antenna to the UHF connection of the RCA preamp.

---------------------------

Here are some Above The Peak Of The Roof antenna mounts.

http://www.ronard.com/909911.html.
Use the , ronard(911) , 5 foot tripod antenna mount.

http://www.ronard.com/Tripods%200703/4712.html.
Use the , ronard(4712-50-10) , 10 foot tripod antenna mount.

http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html.
Measure around the chimney and use a , ronard(2212( , ronard(2218) , ronard(2224) .

----------------------------

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. .

http://www.warrenelectronics.com

http://www.amazon.com.

http://www.ronard.com.

----------------------------

Home Depot and Lowes have , Top Rail , chain link fence pipe 10 feet long , that makes good antenna mast. And cost Low Dollars.

----------------------------

Digital Tuners can develop -Digital Glitches_ that are not cleared out with simple channel scans.

To clear tuner do Double Rescan.

The signal from channel 5 is plenty strong. Your real problem is that WCYB and WJHL come from different directions than the other stations and your antenna may not be aimed at NBC and CBS.

Assuming that channel 5 works with the antenna aimed properly, the best solution is to use your existing antenna for 350 degrees and add a 4 bay UHF only antenna aimed at about 125-130. Add the two antennas together with a TVPRAMP1R preamp.

If WCYB remains iffy with the antenna aimed right, try different antenna heights or consider interference on low band.
