looking for advice

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46ae4e6ddb8ee7

There is my link to TVFool analysis.

I would like to install an antenna in my attic.
I would like to rout this to (5) televisions, and to (2) turners in my computer for DVR purposes. I might not need it to all (5) TV's with the DVR, but would like to have the ability to just in case.

I already have Netflix and Amazon Prime. The OTA stations should fill in the gaps.

At the moment I have DirecTV and Comcast/Xfinity for Internet and "basic" cable. The only reason I have the basic cable is because it was actually cheaper to have both bundled rather than having just internet.

Anyway, I would like to trim back on the number of DirecTV receivers and the channel package until my contract runs out, and then cut them off completely. The basic cable from Comcast isn't hooked anywhere so that will just depend on the bundle packaging from xfinity.

So, what antenna should I install in my attic??

Sorry for the long explanation of where I'm at right now, but I know nothing about antennas and need some help with this.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have to offer.

The Current Tv Channels that are being transmitted and received in the , USA , Canada , Mexico , are.

VHF low band channels 2 thru 6.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

Your location has receivable Tv channels in All 3 Bands.

Recommend install a All Channel Antenna.

-------

Also.

WVTM-DT , REAL VHF high band channel 13 NBC , is weak signal strength at 19 NM(dB) , has 2 Edge Path Obstructions and is 48.5 miles distant.

VHF high band channels benefit from extra help to have reliable reception with these less then good reception conditions.

Install antenna above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that reception is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the roof and building in the directions of reception , North East , East , South East , South.

---------

Recommend install a http://www.antennacraft.net , HD1200 All Channel Antenna aimed at about 72 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

---------

Install a RCA , TVPRAMP1R preamplifier.

---------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-4D , 4 way splitter.

Buy the , HFS-2D , HFS-3D , HFS-4D , splitters at , http://www.solidsignal.com , or , http://www.hollandelectronics.com.

---------

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and building.

Some and not all Negative Effects are.

Absorbing , Blocking , Reception.

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv Signals Bouncing All Around.

The Best Practice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.

---------

The Digital Tuners Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's/Tuners will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv / Tuner , Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for , ATSC-Digital Broadcast TV Channels.

Hi Chathome,

Teleview's suggestion of focusing on the Birmingham cluster should yield you the majority of those signals and affiliates with the HD1200.

Birmingham ABC WJSU is very weak and may not reliable, however WCFT, a WJSU satellite station has a good signal at your location. Expect reception just off the side of HD1200 of WCFT for ABC programming.

I would also anticipate several of the green shaded signals to be received as well while not pointing at them.

We don't recommend attic installations. Antennas perform best outside when no obstructions or impediments get between transmitter and receiving antenna. When mounting antenna in an attic, you not only introduce solid materials the signals must pass through which weakens the desired signals and can cause even very good signals to be unreliable. You bring your antenna closer to household electrical interference. In short, you can have a tv fool radar plot of 60 db signals across the board and you may still have reception problems in an attic due to the weakened signal, multi-path and household interference.

There is also a problem of weaker signals. In your case, with many of the Birmingham signals being around 30 to 18 db, those are getting into the area where the signals already trending weak and simply may not be able to reliably make it through the roof.

For reliable reception of Birmingham as Teleview suggests, the antenna must go outside with the best possible line of sight to magnetic 72.

Cheers

The antenna and coaxes that are used for the antenna and antenna system.

Must Not Be Connected to the cable tv system service , Must Not be connected to cable internet service , Must not be connected to cable phone service.

The cable delivered services must be on Separate Coax.

---------------------------

Some satellite systems will accept and distribute Tv antenna reception.

Check with a satellite system installer.

---

I do not recommend connecting the antenna and coaxes that are used for the

antenna system to any part of the satellite system.

Reason: introduces to many situations of reception problems.

If satellite reception is discontinued , then Disconnect and Remove All satellite system componets such as and not limited to , multi-switches , multi-plexers , splitters , couplers , amplifiers , power injectors , power supplies , and etc. .

Yes the satellite system coaxes can be used for antenna system distribution.
