My impression of many of the reviews I've read re. various antennas and accessories is that many of the reviews are written by people who want to blame the equipment for their lack of knowledge.

Avoid an amplified indoor antenna. (It adds cost and in some cases actually can harm an otherwise good signal due to overloading). The Terk HDTVi is non-amplified, whereas the Terk HDTVa is amplified so I would pass on it. But again, I would also consider an inexpensive antenna... look through these - http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=2828

An indoor antenna may have trouble if you don't have a southern view. You may want to buy from a store with a liberal return policy, in case you need to step up to an outdoor solution.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
