A strong FM signal causing interference?
A poor connection between a connector body and the shield braid??? Water in the coax???
'Luck of the draw' antenna placement in a null for CH-10???
Combining two antennas usually makes more trouble than it overcomes... but if it works, it's hard to argue.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
