Edenton NC Help

I would like help in determining what type of equipment would work best for my location. the antenna will not be mounted on the home due to large Pecan trees blocking the view. it will be mounted on twenty five foot mast and will be located about thirty feet from the home. any help will be greatly appreciated.

I added this report because it was created using the instructions given in the post at the top of this forum. It looks to be the same as the first one I created.

Hello Nikola,

Thanks for posting your tvfool map links. For this discussion, I'll be working off the first one you posted with an elevation of 25'.

I would be curious what a tv fool map says for you at 35' and 50'. If you could post that, it would be benefital.

My early thoughts until I see a 35' and 50' plot above ground would be to focus on the Hampton Roads signals (PBS, CBS, ABC, ION, NBC) at magnetic 24. You have access to a couple Greenville signals (NBC, CBS) at magnetic 228. At 25' no FOX affiliate has sufficient strength to be reliably received.

At 25' most of the signals you have access to are of weak and very weak status. That requires an aggressive antenna setup. You have a combination of VHF (ABC) and UHF (My Network, CBS, ION, NBC) for the Hampton Roads signals. If I were installing at this location, due to the 2-edge conditions and signal strengths I would go with a two antenna set up. For UHF, an Antennas direct DB8e, then for VHF the Antennacraft Y10713. These antennas working together are widely considered a "goto" set up in weak and 2-edge obstructed areas.

What are your goals in getting a over the air (OTA) set up going? Do you have a preference for market (Greenville vs. Hampton Roads)? Are you going to be splitting the signal to multiple TVs?

A preamp may be appropriate, but I'll await further information from you on you goals and configuration.

Cheers.

First, thank you so much for your help with this. I have two televisions in the home . I would like to receive both Greenville stations, and Hampton roads if it is a realistic option. I will post links to both 35' and 50' maps.

Hi Nikola,

Both 35' and 50' offer significant improvement in available signal to receive. I would install at 50' if possible, if not 35'.

The Hampton Roads signals benefit the most from this increase in antenna height. WVBT FOX with these greater antenna heights improves significantly. At 35' FOX reception is possible, at 50' reception should be well into the reliable category.

At 50' with the greater signal strength, my antenna recommendations I'd keep the same. Orientate both antennas to magnetic heading 24. This is due to some of the Hampton Roads signals being in 2-edge conditions. Purchase RCA preamp TVPRAMP1R. Run DB8e coax to UHF input, run Y10713 coax to VHF input. Run single lead of coax down to splitter. Before you connect your coax lead to the splitter, put preamp inserter inline. Preamp inserter then will connect to your splitter. Run coax to each TV.

To get 50 above ground, a telescoping mast may be an option.

Now, the Greenville signals. The number of signals from that market doesn't really increase. NBC and CBS do improve. There are two ways to approach this. The first, with a preamp on the DB8e and Y10713, you may receive Greenville stations off the back. If that doesn't work, a second dedicated antenna and separate lead may be appropriate.

Good luck in your installation!
