Wrong Antenna?

My channels range from 144 to 184 degrees and are 12 to 22 miles away. The weakest one is at 184 and is 30 NM. Four are clustered from 144 to 147 and have 56 to 67 NM and one is 169 degrees with 52.4 NM. I put up on the roof a RCA ANT 751 aimed at roughly 172 last year and had a few problems with the station at 184 degrees. However, after I increased the antenna height to 25 feet above ground I was getting all the channels.

After a hail storm destroyed the antenna last summer I bought another RCA ANT751 and put it up on the roof, but found I had to have it aimed at about 175 to ensure I got the 184 degree station. Now I’m having - random - problems getting channel 30 (144 degrees), channel 4 (147) and channel 9 (169 degrees) – but I always get strong signals from channel 5 and channel 11 (both at 147). If I move the antenna to 168 degrees I get strong signals on everything but I mostly lose the 184 station.

I want to get all the stations – do I need a different antenna or (heaven forbid) two antennas?

St Louis has no VHF stations, so there is no need for a UHF/VHF antenna here.

A good choice for the Bridgeton/Maryland Heights are is usually a 4-bay UHF antenna.

I usually advise folks in your area to aim at channel 9 and the rest will *usually* come in fine.

The current receivable Digital Tv stations/channels at your location are all UHF channels.

The current UHF band channels are 14 thru 51.

There are no current receivable Digital VHF high band channels of 7 thru 13 at your location.

There are no current receivable Digital VHF low band channels of 2 thru 6 at your location.

The tvfool channel list , lists the Real Digital channels that are transmitted and received.

And the (Virt) = Virtual numbers.

Aim a Antennas Direct Clear Stream 4 UHF antenna at about 170 degree magnetic compass direction.

Install the antenna above the roof in such a manner that the roof or house is not blocking reception to the , south west , south , south east.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Digital Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house.

It is best to install the Clear Stream 4 antenna at a location that has little obstructions to no obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own house.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Digital tuners can develop - Digital Glitches - that are not cleared out with a simple channel scan.

Do Double Channel Scan.

I took both your advice and bought and installed the Antennas Direct Clear Stream 4 UHF antenna. Signal strength on all channels increased 50% to 100%. Great picture & reception on all. Thanks for the help!
