Antenna choice / diRection

Hi, like everyone sick of cable bills so cancelling. I have a stucco house so will probably end up with an outdoor antenna. I have a coat hanger special now in an upstairs window facing NE. I am getting 20 channels and get all local UHF channels so off to a good start. I'd like to get ABC WTNH which is VHF and any other channels, what antenna would you suggest and am I correct in assuming I should put it on the roof? Which direction to point it?

Above the Peak of the roof install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with a Winegard HDP-269 preamp in such a manner that the reception is not blocked by the roof and house in the directions of , north east , east , south east , south.

Aim the HD7696P antenna at about 170 degree magnetic compass direction.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7696P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

I ended up getting a Clearstream 2CV, mounted under eave above lower roof line, I get one more channel than with the coathanger special, oh well. Pointing about 110 degrees for now. Maybe in spring I'll pick up the large Winegard and do a chimney mount with rotator, but I'm pretty happy with current channels.

Did you get WTNH at 110 degrees? I'd suspect not, as it's just past 180, so you're about 90 degrees from it. Reception from the side of the CS2 will be weak. You need at least another 45 degrees south to get a decent signal, from what I can tell.

When it is time to move the antenna.

The antenna Must Be UP High above the High Point of The Roof so that the roof and house are not blocking reception.

Some of the Tv stations are Weak Signal Strength and require a clear shot for the best reception.

Because you have the CS2V antenna now.

Install the CS2V above the roof with the HDP-269 preamp.

Aim the CS2V antenna at about 170 degree magnetic compass direction.

Tv antenna rotators Are Not channel surfing friendly , must wait for antenna to rotate and their Will Be Domestic Situations about the direction the antenna is aimed.
