Northern, Up North! Wisconson Recp Help Please

Hi,
looking for OTA advice/help in Northern Wisc cabin. Here is my report-

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1dda96749b3457

At the present time I do not have a tower and will be roof mounting the antenna. Would like to get a couple channels if possible without a huge investment. The area is fairly remote and my only real option is sat TV and I cant justify the expense.

Thanks!

Looks like WLEF is pretty easy to receive from your location there with about any outdoor TV antenna. As for the rest, I'm not putting much hope into a simple solution. The signals drop off fairly quickly for the remaining channels. Costs may add up but consider that it's a one time cost compared to monthly sat service. The downside is that you may spend several hundred dollars and in the end, not do any better than a $30 antenna to tune WLEF.

You'll likely have to use a rotor to go after the other channels as needed. You'll want a large directional antenna so that you can pull as much signal as possible. A rotor will allow you to get spot on to the direction for the highest signal reception. But be prepared that your results may not be acceptable. The signal strength numbers reported don't exactly lean in your favor. The days of snowy analog reception are pretty much gone; digital reception that drops out will frustrate you very quickly.

Trees will impact reception even further, so be sure to evaluate each direction from the mount point. You want to see as much horizon as possible in the direction of the signals.

There's always the extremely simple solution of a good book!

For reception of the following Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels at 20 feet antenna height.

WELF-TV REAL UHF Digital channels 36.1-2-3) , virtual numbers (36.1-2-3) PBS channels.

W42DH-D REAL UHF Digital channels 42.1-2-3 , virtual numbers (07.1-2-3) CBS and MyNetwork and 24 hour Weather/News.

WJFW-DT REAL UHF Digital channels 16.1-2 , virtual numbers (12.1-2) NBC and Antenna Tv.

W31BA REAL UHF Digital channel 39 and W02CF REAL UHF Digital channel 44.
Both are Religion Tv.

WYOW REAL UHF Digital Channels 28.1-2-3 , virtual numbers (28.1-2-3) ABC and The CW and This Tv.

WYOW is Very Weak Signal Strength at 20 feet antenna height , minus -10.6 NM(dB).

WYOW may or may not be received reliably at 20 feet antenna height.

At 40 feet antenna height the signal strength looks like improves to about minus -4.0 NM(dB)

40 feet and higher antenna height will most likely provide reliable reception , depends on how much the trees are blocking reception.

Install a Channel Master CM4228HD UHF antenna aimed at about 125 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

As always , the starting antenna aim direction is the -> starting antenna aim direction.

Adjust the antenna aim direction for best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a signal strength meter and some digital Tv's also have a signal quality meter.

To keep weather/water out of outside connections , Use coax that has the Compression type connectors on the ends of the coax , not the old crimp type connectors.

To make double sure weather/water does not get into outside connections wrap the connections/connectors/coax with coax seal.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a negative effect on Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

The best practice is to install the CM4228HD antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.

Also.

A Analog Tv translator/repeater is transmitting , W32CV UHF channel 32 , at 349 degree magnetic compass direction.
_____________________________________________

Owners of Analog translator/repeater Tv transmitters have until September 1 2015 to convert to Digital transmission.

Many have converted ahead of 2015 , many have not.

http://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/tvq?call=W32CV.

I called KQDS FOX and had a informational chat with the engineer.

He says yes the W32CV UHF channel 32 is transmitting Analog Tv signal.

He says there are no current plans to convert to digital , this translator/repeater transmitter and others that are transmitting Analog.

As a Test of reception , aim the CM4228HD antenna at about 349 degree magnetic compass direction.

Scan for channels.
