Advice Kindly Requested

First let me say this is an awesome forum and those that share their time by responding to requests for advice are very generous.

I live in a 2 story single family home in CT and I would like to install an antenna in my attic if possible. I have Comcast cable currently but will be cancelling it soon. We do not watch a lot of TV at all but we would like to have access to some local stations, mostly to watch some local college sports. However, if getting more stations just involves spending a few more dollars we would do that. I was looking at the RCA ANT751 because of its size and ease of installation but I want to make sure I get the right one for my situation.
Here is my TV Fool report:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...574726964b5a5d

We only have 1 TV and it is HD, do not use a DVR or any other TV components. Our house is wood construction with vinyl siding and an asphalt shingle roof.

Thanks!

The ANT-751 is not a bad choice based on what your goals are.

I think you can do better without spending a lot though.

I'd suggest an Antennacraft Y5713, aimed at WTNH (197° compass). This would provide an ABC affiliate. Combine the signal with a 4-bay panel antenna such as the Antennas Direct DB-4, Antennacraft U4000, Channel Master CM-4221 or Winegard HD4400 aimed at about 105° compass.

Combining the two antennas is done with a UVSJ.

The combination I propose will offer a lineup of ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS and CW affiliates. You might get an ION affiliate but only with the 4-bay outside of the attic I think.

You can try this in your attic but you may need to move one or both antennas out into the clear if your attic construction causes reception trouble.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)

Thanks so much for the advice. What you recommend sounds like a good plan. Now I will start to review all the information regarding the wiring, mounting, etc...so I may be back with more questions!

I suggest a 2 antenna set up with a remote control A-B antenna switch ( radio shack 15-1968 or a A-B27RS from MCM electronics ) located close to the Tv. . Point a Winegard HD7694P antenna at about 205 magnetic compass to receive the VHF and UHF digital stations in that direction. Real Digital channels 11 , 39 , 23 , 42 , 49 . . And a Antennas Direct DB 4 pointed at about 105 magnetic compass to receive the UHF digital stations in the directions of 83 and 130. . Each antenna has a separate coax that goes to the A-B switch box that is located close to the Tv , and the remote control controls the switch A-B switch box.

The Y5713 is a VHF antenna for the reception of WTNH-DT 10. . The HD7694P that I have suggested will receive the VHF and UHF stations in that direction. Here are places to buy Tv antennas and etc.. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.3starinc.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.amazon.com

And here is a way to do it with one Winegard HD7694P antenna on the roof. The antenna will be on a Channel Master 9521A rotor.
