advice on antennas

Hi all,

As many new folks here I'm completely lost on what antenna to choose as the selection is quite wide
I was thinking about an outdoor antenna as I currently have a satellite dish mounted on a side of a house (left by a previous owner) and it's already wired to the living room. But I'm open for any advice.
I'd like to get as many HD channels as I can without using a rotor. And I'm going to connect it to just one TV for now.
Here is my signal chart:

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

DTV/cell phone reception advise and products

If you want the Canadian stations at 183 degrees and some of the US stations at 166 degrees magnetic, you need to mount a Winegard HD7084P antenna and a Channel Master 7778 amplifier above the roof. Your satellite pole will not work with this large all channel antenna.

Use any mount that will support the antenna above your roof aim the antenna to 166 degrees magnetic. Choose a spot that is clear of large trees or any other obstructions. You can shop for mounts where ever you purchase the antenna.

If you need simple and only want the Canadian channels, you can use the satellite mount, (provided it is located where there is a South view) to mount an RCA ANT751 antenna with no amplifier.

Tv Reception.

Mounting a Tv antenna on the side of the house will not provide many Tv channels.

This is a Simple reception situation.

Install a Winegard HD7084P antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp Above the roof so that the antenna clears the roof aimed at about 183 degree magnetic compass.

Here is how aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Many , many , many , many , many , Canada and USA Tv stations/channels will be received.

For a antenna mount use a , chimney mount , tripod mount , eave mount , or some other mount that will get the antenna Up High.

A antenna rotator is not required.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.saveandreplay.com , http://www.trentondistributors.com , http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper , http://www.amazon.ca , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.antennasdirect.com.

Tv Reception.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 tv's connected use a , http://www.holladelectronics.com , also available at , http://www.solidsignal.com.

HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's.

HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's.

HFS-4D , 4 way splitter.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

There is not much difference between the 7778 and the CPA-19 amplifier. Use which ever you have available. I recommend that you aim the antenna more toward the weaker US stations at 166 magnetic. The Canadian stations are stronger and will play very well at that setting also.

If it is CM7778 preamp , then get the New&Improved version.

Here is a example.

Thanks a lot for all the replies, guys! I'm leaning towards the ANT751 as it's much easier to install and cheaper too.
I've got another question though: I've been reading on bow-tie vs yagi antennas, but couldn't quite understand which one is better.
Do yagi antennas work better over long distances?

The main difference between Bow and yagi is the beamwidth. That is the distance in degrees to the left and right from the center of the lobe.

The yagi is narrow the bow or Bay antenna is broad in the two and four bay, then the 8 bay is high in gain and also narrow in beamwidth. The difference in gain depends on the number of elements on the yagi and the number of wiskers ( elements) on the bay. So to answer your question it's a toss up.

WGRZ-DT , NBC And Antenna Tv.

WKBW-DT , ABC.

WNED-DT PBS.

WNYO-TV MyNetwork.

If the ANT751 does not receive them and you will like to reach out for them you can install the HD7084P at a later date.
