Antenna advice

Hello,
Been lurking here for a while and trying to figure out what is going to work for me.

My home is located in what I believe to be a pretty difficult area. Looking for some advice on what to purchase to cut the cord. There are 2 main directions for local signals, and both have ridgelines rising quickly from my house.
1) Basically due north is a ridgeline that rises about 100 feet in 2 city blocks. multi story houses are built going up this ridge- including one directly behind my house.
2) The second set of signals is at 335 degrees. This is blocked by a 300-400 foot ridgeline that rises within 4 blocks. Same deal with multi story houses.

We have 2 tv's in the house with a potential 3rd down the line. Cable runs would be about 50 feet from the antenna.

I figure I'm going to need an external antenna on a 20 foot mast with an amplifier- but what to get is beyond me. One last thing- I'm 1/4 mile from the ocean- so corrosion resistance is pretty important.

Any assistance is apreciated.

Thanks,
Christo

For reception of the Local major english language channels , NBC , ABC , PBS , FOX , CW , and also non major networks , Antenna Tv , This Tv , Cozi Tv , and infomerical channels.

And Spanish language channels , Estrella Tv , Azteca America , Telefutura , Telemundo , and Korean , Chinese , and other languages.

For reception of the Locals, Above the roof install a Winegard HD7696P antenna aimed at about 131 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

XETV-DT UHF channel 23 - The CW channel is Weak signal strength that is why the HD7696P antenna is aimed at 131 degree magnetic compass direction.

The other much stronger local tv stations/channels will be received at angles to the HD7696P antenna.

KFMB-Tv channel 8 CBS.

KGTV-DT channel 10 ABC.

KBNT-CA channel 25 Univision.

Are 6.8 miles away and are LOS=Line Of Sight and are Very Strong Signal Strength.

KSWB-TV Real Channel UHF 19 is Strong signal strength and is 18.6 miles away.

Well the point is that the Locals should all be received with the HD7696P antenna.

Try reception without a signal amplifier first.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter.

XETV The CW is weak signal strength , however HD7696P antenna signal strength gain might provide enough added signal strength for 2 or 3 Tv's.

If not then install a Channel Master CM3410 distribution amplifier.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.channelmasterstore.com.

Your directions of reception are , north - north west , north east , east , south east.

I am wondering , about this statement , "including one directly behind my house".

Does that mean that a 2 story house is between your house and the stations to the , north-north west??

And is your house a 1 or 2 story house??

The tvfool radar report plot and channel list is showing that your reception location is one Very Few Places/Locations that has good reception of ,

Medium signal strength to weak signal strength and LOS = Line of Sight , of a Long List of - Many - Digital Tv stations at Very Long Distances of an amazing , 111+ and 112+ miles distance.

This is reception situation is truly unusual.

Please let there be no close 2 story houses to block reception in that direction.

Aim the HD7696P antenna at about 324 degree magnetic compass direction and Scan For Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

Wow- thanks for the info!

My house is 1 story. The back of my lot (about 50 feet behind my house laterally) is about at roof level, going back. There is an alley, then a 5 foot retaining wall, then a garage with an apartment on top of that- so say its 25 feet above my roofline. I may be able to get better reception to the north if I mount the antenna on the east side of the house- although the tower is pretty close, so that may not be an issue.

I'll post how it works out!
