Signal analysis help - Covington WA

Hi there,

I'm wondering if any expert eyes can offer some advice on my OTA situation. I'm in the process of determining if it is feasible to get usable reception at my location. The biggest concern is a wall of very tall evergreen trees about 40-50 feet away which are in the direct line I need to aim the antennas at.

I face similar Douglas Fir and Cedar. It's impossible to install too much antenna. I'd expect good results on a calm day, using a modest antenna such as the RCA ANT-751. But when the wind starts moving limbs, you'll want to have a big combination such as the Antennas Direct DB8E + Antennacraft Y10713. Even with all that gain (which provides reduction of multipath reception from off-bore-sight angles), windy weather can be expected to cause pixelization.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)

If you have a tall straight tree , the tall straight tree can be used as a Tv antenna tower.

The idea is to get the antenna up high and avoid or reduce the other trees that will disrupt reception in the directions of reception.

http://www.ronard.com/tree_adjust.html.

------------------------------

I recommend start with a Test antenna , a ANT751 aka ANT751R Above the Peak of the Roof Up High , in such a manner that reception is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the roof and building in the directions of , North East at 12 degree magnetic compass direction , counter clock wise , to South West to 237 degree magnetic compass direction.

The Main group of Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels are at 308~311 degree magnetic compass direction.

Aim the ANT751 antenna at about 308~311 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

As always , the starting antenna aim direction is the -->starting antenna aim direction.

The antenna aim direction can be adjusted for best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a Signal Strength Meter and some Digital Tv's also have a Signal Quality Meter.

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels , often named the ~ Antenna Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air Channels in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select ~ Antenna Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air Channels ~.

Scan for channels.

---------------

Home Depot and Lowes can have the ANT751 in stock in the store no matter what the Home Depot and Lowes web sites say.

Some more places to buy antennas and etc. .

Thanks very much, for the tips. Getting an antenna up on a tree is not an option where I am, but it sounds like there is hope!
