Want to end Dish Network, what do I need?

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...1dda371a6928a8

Here is where I am at. I am thinking of mounting an antenna where my current dish is, would just need to extend pipe up and shoot over top of roof peek.

Do I need 2 antenna's? One pointing south and one pointing east, to get the two main groups of channels. I believe one tower is 6 miles to the east and then another about 19 to the south.

What type of Antenna or Antenna's would you recommend. I was thinking maybe 2 RCA ANT751R, one pointing in each direction. Then just plug them into existing Co-ax from current Dish setup.

Only planning on running to 2 TV's. Do I need an amp or anything if I am going to split the signal.

Appreciate the help!

The ANT751 is a Small antenna that is designed to receive , VHF high band channels 7 thru 13 and UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

All receivable Digital Broadcast Tv stations channels to the , east and south-south east , are UHF channels except for one - KEYC-Tv VHF high band channel 12 CBS.

The UHF channels are moderate to strong signal strengths in the Green and Yellow reception zones.

A ANT751 will receive the UHF channels.

KEYC is weak signal strength in the Red reception zone.

A ANT751 may not receive KEYC reliably.

To test reception of KEYC / and receive the UHF Tv channels.

Install a ANT751 Above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and house are not blocking reception to the , east , south south-east.

Aim the ANT751 antenna at about 151 degree magnetic compass direction for reception of the UHF channels and test reception of KEYC.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

It is important to install the ANT751 Above the roof , not just peaking over the top of the roof.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a negative effect on Tv reception , multi-path/reflections , absorbing , blocking , Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

The best practice is to install the ANT751 antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select 'Air Channels' ~ 'Antenna Channels'.

Scan for channels.

Some satellite systems / can connect a Broadcast tv antenna to the satellite system.

Check with a Dish system installer.

And some satellite systems will not allow a Tv antenna to connect to the satellite system.

I recommend do not connect the Tv antenna to the satellite system so as to not have reception problems.

I recommend use separate coaxes and distribution hardware so as to avoid trouble.

With satellite service discontinued and disconnected remove the satellite distribution hardware.
Such as multi-switches , diplexers , splitters , amplifiers , power injectors , power supplies and etc. .

Yes the coaxes that are in or on the house can be used for the antenna system.

Yes the satellite system coaxes can be used for the antenna system.

Just wanted to add a note that multiple antennas can be a great solution, but if not done right, it will very likely cause you more issues than you want to deal with. You won't automatically get the best signals from each.

The 751 has a pretty wide beam width and may get most of what you want by aiming where Teleview suggested. Don't expect that to be the absolute best, you'll just have to tinker with position to find the best reception. I'd even suggest first to aim both east and then south, rescanning for channels each time. That'll give you the absolute on what you can tune. Then it's up and down the ladder the rest of the afternoon to find that sweet spot! A cell phone and an assistant can help with that.

antenna?

So is this the best type of antenna for what I am trying to do, or would there be better options?

Thanks!

I think the 751 is about as good as it gets. You don't need range - you need a wide beam. There may be better out there, but the 751 is a good starting point and will easily fit into a dual antenna solution if you go that direction.
