Channel now broadcasting in 1080, I'm still seeing 720
Here's my TV Fool report. Antenna is RCA ANT751 mounted about 12' from ground. I'm near the foothills and am unfortunately having to direct the antenna through 80' trees towards the transmitters.
Station KIVI reported on their news last Sunday that they're now broadcasting in 1080, but after doing a double rescan of my Vizio TV (model vw42lfhdtv10a) I'm still seeing them in 720. The channel menu info states this and it looks like it always did resolution-wise. My TV already picks up other local stations doing 1080 (KTVB, KBOI), and I know the TV does receive in 1080. But it's still reporting KIVI in 720.
KIVI is the weakest channel I'm currently receiving (and care about); would the weakness explain why I cannot receive it in 1080? Or am I doing something wrong?

Contact the station directly. This is not an antenna or a reception issue, so no worries there.
Sometimes the engineering department and the public relations department are not synchronized. Maybe a configuration option still needs to be flipped somewhere in their system.
Edit: The only story on their website from Sunday simply says they are now broadcasting their news programming in HD instead of SD, it makes zero mention of the resolution format.
I suspect you may have "mis-heard" what you thought you heard.

Actually, 1080p IS part of the ATSC 1.0 broadcast standard but no broadcasters have chosen to use it. See ATSC A/53 part 4.

This says it's still 720p: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIVI-TV
They might think they are 1080, but your tv set can't lie, as long as it's capable of 1080i or p. 1080 p is not a OTA broadcast standard, but 1080 i is.
A weak 1080i signal does NOT change to 720p magically...
So they MUST be still broadcasting at 720p, regardless of what they think. Seeing how even my local channels can't get their aspect ratios correct on new subchannels, it appears most station engineers are fairly clueless. Not only that, but I've also realized none of them apparently ever tune an actual tv set to their own station, so they can't tell what they are broadcasting...

Some believe 720p is better than 1080i. Im not sure but I doubt you could tell the difference. 1080p would be better ofc but as others have said, its probably not offered. Anyway I wouldn't stress about getting 1080i over 720p.

Yes, but it will appropriately identify what's coming in then perform the conversion as needed.

Yeah, I agree. Having worked at a Fox affiliate in the late 90's, Engineering and Marketing didn't always communicate very well.

ABC affiliates are ALMOST ALWAYS 720p. ABC and FOX are 720p. CBS, NBC, and PBS are 1080i. There are exceptions, but 99% of the time this is true.
Example: I can receive a smaller out of market station from Lima, Ohio. It is CBS with ABC on a subchannel. They are both 720p, which is rare because CBS is generally broadcast in 1080i

That is false. If you had said " ALMOST ALL" as skatingrocker17 said , you'd be correct.
There are ABC and Fox stations that use 1080i and 480i and some ION stations are 480i.
