Antenna help

Hello, new to the site and very interested in avoiding cable costs.
I've seen others post their info and they have gotten some quality feedback on antenna setups.

Something like the Mohu Leaf would be great, but I am in the west chicago burbs. We have a single story house, with an attic. Attic has space for an antenna. House is made of brick.

Here is a link to my signal analysis:

Hopefully this information can be of some help to anyone who cares to add some advice.

Thank you for your time.

I'd put an antenna in the attic. Height is your friend. Outdoors would be better of course. You should be able to get a lot of stations just from pointing an antenna to the east. The Leaf won't pull any of the VHF's for you, so I'd avoid that antenna. Not that you need to tune the VHF with the abundance of UHF. I'd suggest an ANT-751. It's relatively inexpensive, low profile and easy to install and will get all channels available to you.

The ANT751 will limit the reception at your location.

The ANT751 is designed to receive channels 7 thru 51.

The ANT751 is a small antenna.

And if you put it in the attic your channels received will be reduced.

If the attic has metal backed insulation , or a metal roof , or solar panels , or the roof has concrete or adobe roof tiles or the the ANT751 is aimed through brick on the outside of the house that reaches up as high as the attic , reception will be reduced more.

Your location has Digital Tv stations/channels in all 3 Tv channel bands of ,

VHF low band channels 2 thru 6.

VHF high band channels 7 thru 13.

UHF band channels 14 thru 51.

WOCK-CD is transmitting on Digital channel 4 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOCK-CD , http://americaone.com.

For Digital Tv reception of the Current Plus Pending Applications Included Digital Tv Stations to the east in the tvfool channel list down to and including WOCK-CD.

I recommend a Tv antenna that is designed to receive All 3 Tv channel bands.

Install a Winegard HD7082P antenna with no preamp above the roof aimed at about 90 degree magnetic compass direction , east.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a common simple 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a common simple 3 way splitter.

For 4 TV's connected use a common simple 4 way splitter.

WOCK is a weak signal and every time a split takes place the signal is reduced in signal strength so if WOCK is not received well with 3 or 4 Tv's connected then install a Channel Master CM3410 distribution amplifier ahead of the 3 or 4 way splitter.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com. Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.channelmasterstore.com.

As always trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house.

It is best install the HD7082P at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the direction of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

I would also recommend an outdoor antenna.
True, you do have some VHF channels, but which ones can you do without?

I receive many of those same channels and the only things that aren't usually duplicated, are the local news, PBS and IND channels.
I am also receiving WLS w/ a UHF only antenna at 47 miles, even though my signal diagnostics say it is broadcasting in VHF high, so you may not need much of an antenna, for that.

Thank you for all of the advice (elmo, teleview, Stereocraig).

I'll have to hire an installer since I hate climbing onto my roof.
