Reception Help along CT Shoreline

Greetings All

I'd be very appreciative of any advice on an Antennae to get over-the-air network reception in Old Lyme, CT. I'm south of I-95 and live in the woods.

Given that your TV Fool report is flagged: "WARNING: Address was only resolved approximately and might not be that close to your actual location. For more accurate results, try entering a specific address or coordinates.", it's uncertain if the data actually reflects the conditions at your location.

When generating a TV Fool report, my preferred method is to open the Interactive TV Maps tool. Leave the 'input method' set to the default, 'address'. Then, enter only the Postal Code, and then click the 'Map This' button.

At this point you should have a map displayed, with a movable cursor located at the center of the Postal Code that was entered. Use your mouse to drag the cursor to the exact location you're interested in. In the upper right corner of the map you can select view types, I find it helpful to use both.

At the bottom of the map, enter the antenna height. Please use the highest value that you can safely consider installing. If you aren't sure, then use 25'. FWIW, You can also find the LAT/LON coordinates of the cursor (in decimal form, not deg/min/sec).

Once the cursor location and the antenna height are set correctly, click on the 'Make Radar Plot' button located at the upper right corner of the map. The TV Fool report opens in a new tab or window. You can then copy the URL from the address bar of your browser, for posting to a thread.

I hope this helps, I just want to be sure we give you advise based on the actual conditions at your location.

If your first report is reasonably accurate, I'd suggest an Antennas Direct DB4e facing about 335° per a compass. I'd also add an Antennacraft Y10713 pointed at WTNH (297°). Combine the two antennas with an Antennas Direct UHF/VHF Signals Combiner.

Hi there. One more question. Do you think I need to do an outdoor / roof mount or will I be okay with an attic mount for the antennae you recommend? Thanks!

The updated report does not change much. I think indoor mounting will cause you to miss out on quite a bit of the weaker signals. I'd go to the roof top or gable end and take full advantage of the available height.

The following is a recommendation for reception with 1 Tv antenna aimed on 1 direction.

Please note that my recommendation is not the final and only way to go about reception , others here at Tvfool will also have recommendations.

Above the Peak of the Roof in such a manner that the roof and building are not , obstructing , impeding , blocking , reception in the directions of , North West , West , South West , North East .

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

A antenna system amplifier will most likely not be required for 1 or 2 Tv's connected.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channels scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels , Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu.

Scan for channels.

As always, trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

The Best Practices is to install the HBU44 at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.
