Antenna Suggestions, please.

Here is my report
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...c84fbcd58bab71

Now, I can just barely get channel 66.1 with an elCheapO' RCA basic indoor antenna on the main floor. I would be happy just to get one each of the major networks.

The 'real' antenna MUST go in the attic, which will be about 20' higher

The feed will have to go about 50' to a splitter in the basement then at most 50' to each of 2 (maybe 3) TVs

Thanks in advance
D

Well, the direction to point is obvious by the number of stations to your NE. Attic installs aren't usually the best way to go, as the building materials will have an impact, signals bounce around with angles and HVAC, foils and the sort. You will need something to pull VHF-Lo as well as UHF. You could try a Winegard HD-7015 aimed at about 60 deg on the compass. It can pull down to Ch 4, which is a repeater for WIAV. You'll need an amp if you're going to 3 TV's.

There's some co-channel warnings, which usually is not an issue because they're typically in different directions and a good ways apart. But I see some in about the same direction here, with only about 20 miles between them; like real 23. I wonder if an antenna with too much long distance gain causes more issues in those cases. I'm not sure and will defer that to someone who knows more. I'd guess that the closer station would present a better signal and the tuner would hopefully handle that. But I just can't say for sure.

Above the roof in such a manner that the roof and house are not blocking reception to the north east install a Winegard HD7082P antenna aimed at about 60 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Here are some above the roof antenna mounts , http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com/34424560.html if using a eave mount use the #4560. , http://www.ronard.com.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box or buy from ronard.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com.

____________

Install a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp.

____________

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the HFS splitters at , http://www.solidsignal.com , or , http://www.hollandelectronics.com.

__________

As always , trees and tree leaves do a good job of , reflecting , reducing , blocking , Digital Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the HD7082P antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels , often named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv/s will automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Tv setup menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

That may work for you... You'll need to put an antenna in there to find out if your attic is a workable location.

Then use the largest antenna 7-51 or 7-69 combo antenna that will fit in the attic while pointing NE (62° per a compass).

Worth consideration,
Antennacraft HBU-55 or HBU-44
Channel Master CM-2020 or CM-2018
Winegard HD7698P, HD7697P, HD7696P, HD7695P or HD7694P (Noted as being difficult to re-fold if they need to be moved out of the attic.)

By going large, you may be able to eliminate the need for an amplifier.
