Antenna help in Western NJ

I'm cutting the cord and turns out the last homeowner left a big old antenna in the attic. I have not idea what kind but it looks like the 91XG on this page but a older looking type:

http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/attic.html

There is no preamp, etc.

I've pointed it towards NYC and I am picking up about 10 or so channels. But not all the major networks. I'm only getting WABC, WPIX, WOR. THe ABC signal is super strong (90+) while everything else seems around 40-50%. I really want the NY affiliates for NBC, CBS, and FOX. I'm also about the same 40-50 mile range to Philly, but I would prefer all NY stations.

Here's my analysis report:

Should I consider a preamp? Would I be better off with an outdoor Clearstream C2 mounted on my chimney?

Thanks for any suggestions or help...

To have much success receiving the New York signals, you need to consider an outdoor installation, high and clear of trees and buildings in the path.

Can you consider a chimney or tripod mounted 10' mast? I would use a 91XG, a UVSJ and an Antennacraft Y10713. An alternate option would be a Winegard HD7698P.

In either case, I would use an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp.

(The C2 is a good antenna, but not enough gain for your application)

Thanks for the info. I have a chimney mount from a previous satellite. I might just try that first with the C2 just to see what kind of results I get.

For the preamp, would I put that just where the cable first comes into the house and before I try any split, correct?

For a full compliment of Network Digital Tv stations/channels.

NBC , ABC , CBS , PBS , FOX , MyNetwork , ION , Antenna Tv , This Tv.

I recommend install 2 antennas aimed south.

Above the roof in such a manner that the roof and house is not blocking reception to the south.

Install a Winegard HD9095P UHF antenna aimed at about 200 degree magnetic compass direction.

And install a Winegard HD5030 VHF antenna aimed at about 212 degree magnetic compass direction.

The 2 antennas will be connected together with a UVSJ = UHF/VHF Separator/Joiner.
Type - uvsj - in the , http://www.solidsignal.com , search box.

The HD9095P is connected to the UHF connection of the UVSJ.

The HD5030 is connected to the VHF connection of the UVSJ.

And a KitzTech , KT-200 remote power amplifier booster is connected to the remaining connection of the UVSJ.
________

For 1 Tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

I recommend a Strong and Sturdy antenna mount.

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in
the solidsignal search box.

The HD5030 will be on the bottom and the HD9095P will be on top seperated buy about 3 feet.

Here are places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.winegardirect.com , http://www.kitztech.com.

_____________

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own house.

It is best to install antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions in the direction of reception including your own house.

The ideal location for a preamp is at the antenna. (Use a short section of cable from the antenna to the preamp mounted on the mast, just under the antenna)

I think I'm getting somewhere with trial and error

Pointed my Antenna direct C2 east (92) out my 2nd story window and got 17 channels. Then pointed my Antennas direct C2 south (215) out another window and I got 27 channels. And it's a really cloudy, rainy day.

My main problem is I can't get the NY channels for FOX or NBC (only picking up the NY ABC and CBS but the signal is strong so I'm confused why the other two don't come in at all). I really want NY FOX for sports.

So per the previous recommendation, can i use a combo/joiner to use 2 antennas to get both Philly and NY channels combined? That would be my ideal situation. I'm thinking I could mount the C2 outside for NY then use my attic antenna for the philly stations. Not sure how I'd run all this with a preamp, etc. Thanks again for any help.
