Well the reason for the pre-amp is that I have a long distance from the antenna to my TV. It's 70' total ...it goes first to a cable TV box and from there (through an intermediate connector) to my TV...

The channel where we notice the problem most is: 54.3 KQEH-DT3

I'm still getting good reception on most channels (probably about 20 of them) but on about 2 or 3 channels the reception can be unreliable: occasionally we will get the little digital...

Thank you for these suggestions. I checked both ends of the Coax with a magnifying lens and it looks clean. The foil shielding and shield wires are not touching the center wire.

If I aim the antenna at 311 degrees, what about the stations that are located on a completely different azimuth ...will I be unable to receive from them at all?

I went out and bought a "rabbit ears" indoor antenna today so I now have more data. With just rabbit ears I can get many stations but many of them are not English...
