antenna suggestion? - Champaign, IL

Hi there.

I am looking for an antenna recommendation that has to be indoor and temporary since I’m renting the first floor of a two-story house. Access to the attic and/or roof is not possible.

Currently I’m using a Zinwell Zat-970A digital to analog converter box and RCA multi-directional digital flat amplified antenna with one tv. The converter box is new. This antenna has been around since the analog/digital conversion. I recently bought and returned a RCA ANT121 - TV / radio antenna - Indoor and RCA ANT1400 Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Home Theater Antenna b/c I wasn’t getting any additional stations.

ABC (15.1) comes in well and CBS (3.1) usually comes in fine. Depending on the weather, NBC (17.1) is sometimes available. Ideally, I would also like to get FOX (27.1) and PBS (12.1).

I am looking at the following antennas per Amazon (the others were all from a Best Buy store).

- Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna for Off-Air HDTV Reception
- Winegard SS-3000 Amplified Indoor UHF/VHF Antenna

What do you recommend? Any other suggestions?

Thank you!

If you can mount a Antennacraft HDX1000 , http://www.antennacraft.net/Manuals/HDX1000_manual.pdf , on a out side wall of the house as high as the first story , and the antenna is aimed at about 253 magnetic compass. The reception of the Tv channels will be good. And if would it be possible to mount a small antenna like the HDX1000 up higher on the out side of the house the reception will be better. As you can see this antenna is the size of a small dish and looks like a small dish. This is not the only suggestion I have.

Just to follow up... I ordered and returned the AntennaCraft HDX1000 since it didn't improve the quality of the signals nor increase the number of channels. However, the customer service department of Solid Signal was very helpful and my credit card was refunded pretty quickly after the antenna was returned (no, I don't work for them). The Philips SDV2710/27 Passive Enhanced Digital Performance Antenna wasn't an improvement, so that was returned, too.

Your suggestions on placement helped a lot. I'm still using the RCA multi-directional flat antenna and I'm easily receiving NBC and CW (along w/ CBS and ABC). I've accepted that I won't get FOX and PBS at this location.

Thanks for your help!
