advice on which antenna to get and where i can find material to mount it with?

Hi,

There are so many antenna options and i wanted to get recommendations from knowledgable folks like this forum :).

1) What's the best antenna to get?
- if i mount it on the roof
- if i mount it on the side of the bldg

2) What direction should i point it too? based on the radar output i'm guessing south.

3) where can i find the bars to mount the antenna with?

The antenna recommendation depends on which channels you want to receive. If you want the Canadian only, a simple system will do. If you want to receive some of the US stations a larger, complex, or multipul system systems will be needed.

I want to recieve US channels from Buffalo. Any thoughts on Digiwave ANT-7286 Super 8 Bay Ultra Clear Outdoor HD TV Digital Antenna vs Winegard HD-9075P UHF TV Antenna?

Use a Winegard 9095P and a Channel Master 7777 preamplifier. Aim to 171 degrees magnetic.

Mount as high as practical, clear of any trees or buildings.

This antenna is highly directional and may not receive the Canadian stations. To receive the Canadian stations use an Antenna Direct CS2 aimed toward the desired stations. Use a seperate coax, and an A/B switch to go between locations. You can not combind these systems into one coax.

Your location has receivable Tv stations/channels in both the UHF Tv band of 14 thru 69 and VHF high Tv band of channels 7 thru 13.

A HD9095P is designed for UHF reception not VHF.

This is a simple and easy reception situation.

Aim a Winegard HD7697P antenna with a Winegard AP8700 preamp at about 195 degree magnetic compass.

When pointed to Buffalo there is only one VHF, 7. This is distant and IMO not worth chaseing.

If you put your resources into the existing UHF you will have better reception with less bulk.

The Tv/s Must scan for the Broadcast Tv Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT scan for cable tv channels.

Here are clear and simple facts.

Canada is Still Into the DTV transition and Will Be for quite some time into the future. And the channels for the most part will be in the VHF high band range and UHF range.

CKVR-DT Real VHF Tv Channel 10
CHCH-DT Real VHF Tv Channel 11
And WBBZ-TV Real VHF Tv Channel channel 7 is weak and Yes Is Receivable at minus -7.2 NM(dB) signal strength , with a 10 foot antenna height.

With the antenna mounted above the roof 20 or more feet above ground the signal strength will most likely improve for WBBZ.
